I got it off of a college application book I got to help. Apparantly you find your target, safety, hard target, and reach schools using SAT scores.
It started with a conversation with my mom in the car omw to saxophone lessons. She brought up applying to private schools and after discussing a bit, I decided to sure, try it out and see what happens. ( my mindset being I thought I wouldn’t get into any) few days later we searched kingswood oxford and Westminster to apply to and end of list as local day schools We found a counselor last minute who recommended Exeter bc I was told to try Andover, and all the rest. Little did I know what “Andover” meant at the time…
Side note: I was disappointed in myself because during application season, I didn’t put in as much effort or heart as I could have. And definitely could’ve helped my case more by talking more. Was a very shy person. I didn’t have my heart set on BS till January, which is when I started to truly fall in love with my schools. Before I was holding back on the thought of my social life, if I would be a failure at elite schools etc etc. I’m glad I turned it around and at least was able to give it my all for my essays and short questions in January.
When I walked into a gym and saw 5 of my new classmates smoking a joint behind the weight racks, knew I didn’t belong in Cali at that moment.
Massachusetts
Why were admissions this hard? Even for people who actually sent in standardized test scores?
Because there were people who didn’t send in scores and that’s why there were a lot more applicant.
Everything being online made applying much more accessible (no need to travel, do in person interview, etc) and covid was a reason to not want to stay at your lps
When schools said they would equally weigh applications from both students who sent in scores and students who didn’t i think they meant it.
Oh yeah. I should mention. I was a total dingbat when it came to bs as well. Previous year in seventh grade I was excited to go to Exeter summer program, completely not knowing Exeter was a bs not college
I can relate. I lived most of my life in Russia, and only moved to the States a year ago. In Russian high schools, a student that doesn’t smoke/vape/drink is a fairly rare occurrence.
Oh, the life of a public school (not all of them). I’ve seen kids Juul during recess and not get reprimanded.
I think it was the right time for me to leave too. We just almost had a pregnancy scare, and just had our first racism scandal
Edit: scandal not in my grade. Grade below. Which may or may not be worse.
My school had a scandal too but it wasn’t their first. A student hacked the school email system and threatened black students.
Yikes
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like those people that would be turned away from applying just because of logistical difficulties (assuming those people can afford them) aren’t qualified enough to be at the school.
Not at all, people have different financial situations. Someone living in ghana or the U.K isn’t going to pay $1,800 to come to the states just to interview especially if they need full financial aid. Not everyone has access to testing (that was a problem for me) so many things play into applying to these schools.
if y’all think this is bad… the things that happen in my school…
I’m intrigued but a little scared haha
same ,my school is truly a movie😂
True, but those people make up a huge fraction of the applicants
