The Official October 2012 Sat Subject Test Math Level 2 Thread

I do, however, have one issue.

The question that was talking about:
A is between 0 and 45 degrees. Which is the LEAST likely value for 3+cosA?

2.00
2.27
3.00
3.73
4.00

Please correct me if I got any part of the question wrong (Which I believe I may have) aren’t 3.00, 2.27, and 2.00 all equally unlikely (zero chance)?

@WhatsanSAT
didn’t the question ask which was the lowest possible value??

Yes, the question asked the lowest possible answer. I put D.

Also did we decide on the correct answer for: which of the following increases? Standard Deviation, mean, median??

Thank you!!! i though i read it wrong

So far I skipped:
-cone
-population Q

Wrongs
-polynomial stuff
-the test scores question with percentiles.

Aiming for 750+ still :(

how did you guys get -1 for the last question? i got 2.

Question asked what was least so cos(45) is lowest you can get +3 of course

no cos has to be between 0 and 45 degrees, so root2/2 is the smallest value

@karatekid666
YOU ARE CORRECT. I don’t know why the TI-89 doesn’t give 20.219 and 15.410 as possible answers, but they DO work. There are indeed 6 positive x’s for which the graphs intersect.

You would have to add 3 to roo2/2 however.

Thanks guys. I skipped that question and came back to it when i finished early and couldnt figure it out in those 5-10 minutes.

I feel dumb now. reading ruined me

How did y’all’s answer to the last question come -1?

I don’t remember the cone question. What was it?

@adi2915
Since when x=a-1, the y is -1 (because you’re given that f(a-1)=-1). The function has a period of 3, which means that if you move 3 to the right (ie x= a-1+3 = a+2), you’ll have the same y value (ie -1). So f(a+2)=-1. The facts that f(a)=0 and f(a+1)=1 were irrelevant.

The period of the function is 3, and f(a-1) was -1, so if you add 3 to the x-value and make it a+2, then the answer would be -1 also.

karatekid666 is right. all you had to do was graph the two functions… six is the right answer.

i think the cone problem was impossible…

nope multiply the height, 18, with (1/2)^1/3

stupid question, but how do we know that the period is 3 on the last question?
