i never realized how different the canadian math courses are to the american ones. This is actually ridiculous…

^How so?

10char

urs are a lot harder lol. we never had to do imaginary numbers, geometry and i dont remember doing a lot of sequence and series stuff either in grade 12

Well, I guess I am in the same situation as everybody else here. I have been doing practice tests from the past few days now from Kaplan and Barrons. My scores have been varying from 670-700. As a international student I need to get 800 to stand out from the crowd. This really worries me out. :(

Aquawater98-

I am in IB SL math… have you taken this test before?

LOL I just took a Barron’s test (#3) and got a 640. Then I took a Sparknotes test and got a 750.

800 … looks to be a far shot now :(.

Maybe I was just tired (I almost passed out in class today).

I’ve taken 4 barron’s practice tests, 720, 540, 700, and today, 550. the time limit is proving to be difficult (I had about 10mins extra time for the higher scores) but it also could be because I take the tests after a long day of school/research internship, and honestly, I’m really burnt out right now. My dad says I need to just stop studying and relax until saturday, but I’d feel horrible just doing nothing when I could be preparing. this is my 2nd time taking the test (660 in June) and I’m also retaking chem (690 in June) and I’ve been studying for that as well. what do you guys think? should I just throw in the towel?

Im studying even the night before for a few hours! Some people say that its best to rest, but for others (like myself) last minute studying is way more effective :)

blackbelt, I would probably just start reviewing a bit more intensely every day. Math II… isn’t a memorization-based test, so it’s difficult to cram what you need to know in a week. I’d go over my mistakes everyday, read over my prep book’s tips everyday, and just make sure I know some general reminders before going in. Careless errors can destroy you if you’re too nervous. Also just relax.

yjkim, ah, nevermind. Yes I’ve taken the SAT II before this June.

cac815, I wouldn’t throw it in the towel yet. Take another practice test when you’re most alert. Try starting either tomorrow or Friday. You don’t wanna give up when you’re so close to taking the test. I find that if I don’t do math for a couple days, I’m kind of confused and disorientated when I do it again.

Got either a 710 or a 720 on a Barrons test, which could be a good sign.

cac815- Don’t give up yet. You’ve flashed potential for a good score and Barrons is tough to begin with. As for time management, that comes with practice. So practice some more before you take the test, but don’t forget to take sufficient breaks because you can’t think very well when you’re burnt out.

My Barron’s scores have been plummeting. 740, 750, 800, 700, 700, 670 (today, just now). I honestly barely remember anything from Algebra 2 (conics, sequences/series, probability, etc.), so I need to review A LOT tomorrow and Friday. Yay!!! /sarcasm

I’m so bad. I’ve been focusing more on school and the Bio M test than this. The Geometry on it is going to kill me.

Got a 790 on the diagnostic test… Is it usually easier than the model tests?

Because on the model test I did on Tuesday I only got a 740…

Time for Bio!

Aqua98…

Could you possibly tell me which book you thought was closely similar to the level of difficulty? Thanks!

We can use both a scientific and graphing calculator, right?

LOL I got a 500 something on the second to last Barron’s practice test …

The test did however feel really random - much more so than earlier tests.

Finished a SparkNotes Math II test (number 2), and got a 770. There were, however, SO MANY FORMATTING ERRORS AND TYPOS ON THE TEST. I missed two problems alone to formatting issues (like exponents not being where they are supposed to be, e.g. sin2x vs. sin^2(x)).

800 here I come.

Have heard tales that SAT Subject tests are only valuable if you get 800 or something very close. Is that true, particularly for schools like Georgetown?

Huh. I got 660-690 on McGraw-Hill, which is supposed to be easy, but I’ve just gotten a 720 on Barron’s.

I was wondering if someone could explain a part of this question from Barron’s: The area of triangle ABC = 12root3, side a = 6 and side b = 8. Side c = ? I could find side c using the Law of Cosines. The thing is, I didn’t know whether there were two possible triangles or not. How can you tell with only the information they gave?
