The Official Pakistani Thread for the Class of 2014

@Inert101: I think you think too much.

Why are you still awake man?

Tumhara kawn sa kaam hai?

@Inert101: Remember the EA pledge thread? It’s quite marvelous.

Oh, and I’m most likely majoring Political Science (and double major in French, if possible - weird, I know. Or history or int’l relations, we’ll see) You? I might’ve missed it?

Btw my interviewer also majored in Poli Sci. So that was kind of cool.

^ That’s weird. I’m most likely going to major in mechanical engineering, and my interviewer was also an ME major.

I don’t know about the A Levels v. AP debate, but one thing I can tell you is that if you take A Levels, your freshmen year at college will be a breeze. Just like Joiya said, its like going over the same stuff over again. It seems boring sometimes and you might even start skipping classes (like I’ve been doing :stuck_out_tongue: ) but it helps building a good base your first semester of college.

There’s way much more on your mind than just studies! haha

I wonder if Pakistan had any acceptances to Dartmouth, Duke, Columbia and Cornell. Last year they had a pretty good list on those that got in.

question popped up in my mind

how much da kind of schoolin matters (like san pats or roots ) does the universities take this in a matter or not ??

^ It matters a LOT. Admissions officers are allotted to certain ‘regions’, and they usually know the credibility of schools in those regions. I know that there are some schools in Pakistan (I won’t take any names…) where transcripts are forged and grades are ridiculously inflated, and ad.officers will think twice about accepting a student from that kind of school. Also, if students from a school have gone to a university and have made a fool out of themselves, ad.officers will look down upon that school. Now, let’s consider a school like Aitchison, which over the years has sent students to Yale that have done very well there. Students applying from Aitchison to Yale will be preferred to equally qualified applicants because ad.officers will feel that picking an Aitchisonian is a ‘safer’ option.

@everyone: Juggernaut, that is a pretty good idea. Let’s make our own Pakistan 2014 acceptances list. If you guys know people from your school or people from other schools who know people who got in, let us know!

i dont see in my clg history any one applying abroad
Does dat can be postive neutral or negative ??

dark_angel, that’s definitely a very big positive. I was in the same position last year. If anything, it shows the adcom that you’re somehow different from all your peers. I quite frankly, had quite ordinary stats compared to the other intl students here at Laf, but the fact that i was coming from a school where nobody even really goes to a proper college after high school gave me the edge.

@ INERT: I have a friend in another school. Its usually the top school to get into for every Olevel graduate. I guess you know which school i am talking about. My friend said that usually they get an A at 85 above, but when their transcripts are being sent abroad, the threshold for A is lowered to 70. Thats not really fair especially considering the fact their exams are of average difficulty.
But i know another school that sits at the opposite extreme. Their exams are usually the most difficult. A friend got 45 out of 100 in Chemistry and surprisingly his rank was 2nd, and this was from a class filled with high achievers.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

I would like to announce that LAS just been gifted with THREE, not two, not one, but THREE UPenn acceptances (one Wharton), and another very incredible acceptance from Stanford.

Well, clearly this is the strongest class at LAS! KAS is not doing so well, only deferrals and rejections so far :frowning: but we’re all still waiting for early morning on the 16th for the rest of the decisions… Congrats people!
