The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2015

Bump ! See, i dont want to. but i just have to

Ah intemister, you hit the nail on the head with a really big hammer!! Maybe I will scrape through…I hate going into civil service, because form the sort of interactions my father has, there is a lot of paperwork, no innovation and big opportunities to fall into immoral activities (read: perks :P:P)

Sorry for the late reply. My midterms are on and my DSL had gone all awry! Thanks a lot, PTCL…

My SAT results are in tomorrow…
Do pray, please!

Ah , yes, the SAT results tomorrow! i am excited about that eventhough i ddint take it on the 9th :stuck_out_tongue: , alot of friends of mine did! Well, i feel what you said. Tell me where everyone is in their process, i have yet to finalize a list and write the essays !! yikes

how did the SATs go?

Btw, I am a freshmen at Bryn Mawr.

Most people i know had <2200 . Seems the CR this year was really as hard as they said !
Maheen1, would you mind posting your stats here so everyone can benefit?
Regards and good luck!

SAT 1: 2020, 2230 (w 800, m 790, cr 640)
SAT 2: Math 1-800, Math 2-800, Phy-770
O-Levels- 8As
AS-Levels-4As
A-Levels-4A*s
Financial aid: yes (But BM gave me very less aid)
ECs: SOS volunteer, 2 internships, swimming, badminton, writer for school magazine, participated in several national essay competitions, work experience…there were some more too. I can’t recall all of them

I had two distinctions in my AS-Levels but one was announced after I submitted my midterm report and the other after I got back all my college decisions. I got a cash reward from CIE too.
I had econ, acct, business studies along with maths in high school.
I had applied to the ivies, several lacs as back-ups, stanford, uchicago and duke. I was rejected by almost all of the unis which is understandable because I did not apply to sufficient back-up universities. My list of colleges largely included those which had <10% acceptance rates.
Moral of the story: keep more safeties on your list.

After the spate of rejections, I thought about transferring out from BM to a business school (stern, CMU’s, BU’s) as I am more of an acct-math sort of a person but now, transferring is the last thing on the cards.

@intemister
Ask me about the CR…I had a 670 :frowning: I had expected at least 700…

BTW i got a 780 in biology E/M and a 730 in Math IIC (dooooomed) I really am gonna sue kaplan…I was waaaay under prepared…nyway im gna give math again in december…

How is everyone doing?

APPLY TO DAVIDSON COLLEGE!!!

Best school ever. Thats all I have to say!

Nice going slimy987; now, the college I was applying to will be flodded by apps from Pakistan ergo filling the quote. -_-

Wow Maheen1 great stats, how could everyone have rejected you? why do you think?(apologies if this reminds you of a bad time ) And, if you were rejected from everywhere how did you land at BM?

Bump
Ou est tout le monde?
People need help
Almost…deadline…need…help…college…app…peanuts…ughh

What’d you get?

@intemister: It does remind remind of the bad time but it’s ok. I was not rejected from ALL but MOST unis. I got into BM and two state unis. I think my ecs and probably, my essays took me down. there is literally nothing to do besides curriculars in sialkot. on top of that, i had no counselling at my school as i was the first person ever to apply to States. Thus, my recs were bad and my transcripts were submitted after the deadline. My distinctions (which I don’t think count much) were announced late. Prior to applying, I thought that in US undergrad business schools did not exist so I did not check out Stern/Wharton at all and applied to liberal arts. So it was partly lack of info on my part and the laziness of my school management that led to this horrible outcome. I am still debating abt transferring.

Horrible outcome? Would you say Pakis would be happy going to a small college in the US ? I mean one that doesn’t have many intl students? And would you say that students can find a way to pay for the 2nd year and onwards by finding a way to generate some money, be it scholarships or work study?
Also, is going to Community college worth it?

It varies from person to person. I am from a very small high school and Bryn Mawr is a small college. I wanted to go to a big university but things did not really work out well as you can see. Horrible outcome as in the numerous rejections of my freshmen yr application. As a college student, you can’t work enough to have enough money to pay for a yr’s tuition. On top of that, being an int’l student you can’t work outside campus. Scholarships are rarely available for int’l students. I don’t think my college offers any merit-aid to int’ls. But I guess some state unis do (UMich and UVA, but i might be wrong).
I was referring to my high school’s management.
I am sorry but I am not much familiar with the community college system here.

Thanks alot! I think many of us are more aware now! SAT tomorrow…eeks…any tips?
I want a 2200+

@inteimister…
big day for you…
where are you giving the SAT…specifically if at noor banquet lahore don’t eat a lot…there’s only one toilet in the whole testing area :P:P AND bring food but less water…one of my chums gulped a whole bottle of water. Needless to say he was in the toilet most of the time

guess you have prepared for it very well…no need for tips for the academic side of the test!!

Oh the luck. It was in Islamabad , but i could’ve used the don’t drink a lot advice, I had to do the 20 min maths section in 15 and take 5 to go. lol .It seems the CR this time was super hard, especially the sentence completions…maths and writing were arite. Please God 2200>

Hi guys…
Just read one of the post about LUMS financial aid policy…The info given was wrong…It is not true that LUMS only give LOANS for students not in NOP…LUMS has a pretty generous financial policy which provides financial aid and not loans to students who have not come through NOP…They do visit ur house and demand documents, bills etc to confirm that u deserve the aid…So money should not be a real big problem which stops u from applying to LUMS…i

^^
thanks samtjt!!
the problem is that I am not poor enough (thanks God!) that I need aid, but I am not rich enough that I can pay all that LUMS asks me to pay…
I mean NUST is within my reach but LUMS does get a bit heavy on the pocket. So does LUMS have anything for me??
