Oh and idt you’ll have a problem getting into Stanford. One of my friends got in already. And if u got into Oxford Stanford must be nothing

except oxford I got into UCL, Edinburgh, Sheffield ( some 2000-8500 pound scholarship thing) and southampton…

meenzie, Chicago and NYC > LA. jmo. :D

LA just doesn’t feel like a great city, perhaps because of its expansive nature. on the west coast, sf and vancouver are my favourite destinations.

^^ actually, stanford is considered to be much more competitive than oxbridge.

well if he can get into Oxford he can sure as hell get into atleast one of the top tier colleges too …

Omg. Well I’ve never been to Chicago or NYC. I’ve been dying to go there though. I’m from LA so that’s probably why I love it so much lol. But LA has everything dude. Southern California in general. Snow on one side, beaches on the other, Disneyland, etc etc xD.

Doesn’t being international give you an advantage tho?

yeah, i have no doubt mathsfreak will get in.
i was just correcting the misconception that oxbridge are as competitive as hyps.

@SpEeDyZ: yeah 1st april will make up for that
i got into ucl, imperial, southampton, and bristol… Havent applied for scholarship at these universities, do they even give?
@pakipower: 4As are great too a girl from my school who made it to yale had 4As in AS too

well no for oxbridge you just needs to be like REALLY REALLY good in your studies… EC’s and other stuff dont matter much… in the US they look at everything and give you admission based on your personality and stuff… or atleast that is my perception …

mathsfreak, not very well lol. i think i’ll probably start studying in earnest for A2s around april. i have a bunch of extracurricular commitments atm and the stress of college apps causes me to spend half my day at creek club, just so i can avoid logging in to check my application status every single second of the day. intense, huh? :)

i so agree that it is alot more difficult to get into stanford compared to oxbridge. For oxbridge you just need to be good in academics, but for HYPSM, u hv to be good in everything

Yeah pretty much. Being a minority helps. Essays help. Your “story” helps. If your grades and sat scores are good and you don’t have any EC that can kill your application too. But it depends on the uni too

Hypsm? O.o

^ hypsm = harvard, yale, princeton, stanford, mit (the last school’s place is sometimes disputed) :)

and meenzie, being an asian is an added disadvantage actually esp if you are applying for math/science related major! The asian pool is sooo competitive!
and SpEeDyZ, do u know how many oxford acceptances from isl?
From lahore, there are 6/7

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT

I am confirm about one acceptance … but I have heard there are 2 others too … so that makes it 3 … though there could be more…

wow that makes too many oxford acceptances from pakistan
there is one from kgs also. Last year there were 7 oxford acceptances from pakistan. I guess more applied to oxford this year than cambridge

there were several interview offers at my school (in karachi). the people i know didn’t get in. i have no idea about the others.
