<p>My other co-counselor is BNU grad, he doesnt know a thing about writing recs etc though he has learnt a lot since he joined us few months ago. before him we had an NYU grad as co-counselor, she didnt know anything about collegeapps. When ever we went to discuss with her anything, she would google it before telling us.</p>

<p>damn, that’s good. my college counselor is quite good too actually, if only a bit disorganized. she’s not pakistani so she understands the system quite well. </p>

<p>Why dont counselors have lives. You are so on spot when u say that ‘she’s a failure at life’. My counselor is absolutely that. He sits all day in his office doing stuff that is less important than the stuff which the sweeper does. We used to call him “waila” at school. You know what i think, counselors know that they suck, thats why they take the frustration out on students sometimes.</p>
<p>Before all of these we had the best counselor in Pak. He was our ex student and stanford grad but now he works as counselor at lums. He sent many students to Ivies from our school during his time, and even now some people I know who paid him heavily for counseling are sitting in Ivies.</p>

<p>Yes, she was there only for donkey work like helping students getting packets sealed etc. </p>
<p>Ah! And our school isnt registered with commonapp so we had to make loads of packets. Its was very tiresome job to to get all docs photocopied, stapled, arranged in order and then pay 1500 per packet for fedex :(</p>
<p>nice. yeah, counselors really pi - ss me off. especially personal counselors. they do more harm than good. complete waste of space and money.</p>
<p>those independent college ‘consultants’, if good, can make a huge difference to your app. my cousin from DAA in dubai used one and got into every ivy he applied to (this was 3 years ago though). and he isn’t all that impressive, to put it nicely.</p>

<p>I also sent my apps on paper. And i was so tired after sending 8 apps that i couldnt go and send the last remaining completely finished upenn app. :(</p>
<p>yes CEEB. btw getting teacher recs was the most difficult part of my collegeapp experience. Pakistani teachers have little interest in their students’ collegeapps and they are mostly concerned with their results :(. Half of the teachers say “likh k lado mein sign kar doun ga”. I have been asking my GP teacher for rec since sept and i got it on 29th dec.</p>
<p>Our horrible school charged us 2000 per university to release transcripts and expected grades. They termed it as university application fee, although on the last day our school photocopier didnt come and i had to get all photocopies from a nearby shop.</p>
<p>i got three teacher letters actually, and all of them were submitted online (one from an O levels teacher, and two from A levels). i think my recs were good because i got them from the same people who wrote me recs for a summer program, but there’s no way i can tell for sure. ah, i hope they were good lol.</p>
<p>oh wow, that sucks. our apps weren’t charged for, except for the actual app fee of course.</p>
<p>^^ oh, another thing: who here thinks GP is the most useless thing ever created?! I can’t believe schools actually force us to take it.</p>

<p>seriously, what’s the point of having a person manning the copier?! it’s not exactly rocket science. you put the paper on the glass thingy, press the button, and VOILA, it copies. it’s so annoying having to deal with these idiot copiers who act like they’re the busiest people on the planet.</p>
