MIT admissions are out. Whoever has applied, should check and update us!!
@USAMATIWANA

I’m not a US citizen that i could have applied ED to MIT :/

@Usamatiwana, you are applying to MIT as an international citizen? But they only take 147 International Students from 70/80 countries worldwide. Indians who have some connections with IIT usually get in, not to mention the Chinese. And so are you @InVeritas? Wow. You guys must have some aces up your sleep if you are applying to MIT on these statistics. Anyways, your passion.
So, @diaspora will you be paying for Cambridge as well? Or are you competing for the ManMohan(sic) Singh Scholarship’s variant for Pakistan. Only one person gets it from Pakistan, right? How do you place yourself?
@InVeritas does the NMO camp help? @eragon1994 are you in it as well? And where have you applied, if anywhere for ED?

ChuckBBass, I’m not applying to MIT. And of course the NMO camp helps a lot. After all it is training for the IMO.

@ChuckBBass Well apparently yes, I’m applying there as an International Applicant and I know exactly how much of a bloodbath it is when the MIT decisions come out. Though thanks for the re-assurance, I really feel I have chance now. -__- But then again, you can’t blame a man for trying. :P

@diaspora Did you by any chance have your MIT interview yet? My EC delayed my interview yet again till next week. :/

Nope, no NMO. And I applied early to Lafayette. Waiting for the decision.

usamatiwana, I do not think seeing him is actually as important as showing you contacted him by the deadline and made yourself available for the interview. By the way, how did he communicate he was delaying the interview? Was it by email? Then, keep a copy of the email. If not an email, send him an email thanking him for letting you know the interview would be delayed and that you are still available for another date, that is good for him. Then, keep a copy/ record of that email. This way Admissions knows that you have made a reasonable effort, without pestering or stalking the guy.

@perazziman thats the problem, he doesnt respond the emails himself or via the email address that is given on myMIT account. I know a few people from last year who couldnt get their interview done because they never heard back from him. Same happened with me for like atleast 3 weeks, Then I asked my father to find a way to contact him and then i learned that everything is set by one of his assistants, he contacts you about everything, the date and time of them interview, I have an email from his assistant informing me about my interview and where and when it is suppose to take place, it came in 5 days back. Today he called me on my cell telling me that Mr. Azfar had to go out of city for a few days and they will set my interview up sometime next week and a text saying the same thing from his assistant. No email though. :/

An assistant’s email is fine, keep a copy of it. Also send the assistant a follow up email, thanking him for calling you and letting you know the interview with Mr Azfar would have to be rescheduled. You have to demonstrate you were keen and eagar to meet him and made a reasonable efforts to that end. People sometimes have to reschedule, so do not get overwhelmed.

Okay, I’ll do that. Thanks for the advice though. :)

All ED I decisions are coming at 4:00AM Pakistan time.
Good Luck.

Who told you Faryal?

All my friends who have applied to the US in ED Round I called up their respective admissions departments. They are posting the letter to US Nationals latest by 6:30 PM US Time and international applicants will be emailed at the same time, i.e. 4 AM Pakistan time.

@usamatiwana I had Mr. Azfar listed as my EC. He didn’t respond to my emails or calls. I asked MIT’s EC office to reassign me to a new EC (on 8th Dec., I guess). Anyway, how did your dad manage such a feat? I tried for like two weeks to get in touch with him!

@eragon1994, so are you also awaiting some ED/EA like InVeritas, so going for regular admissions?
@InVeritas how does one get into the NMO camps? Do they have good teachers?

@usamatiwana, @diaspora, @InVeritas, @eragon1994 Does anyone know about RPI? Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute? I got an email from then saying that they were interested in me via College Board Student Search Program, and since I was a promising candidate, they have selected me for some Choice Candidate Application. Any updates on this, anyone.

@Chuckbass, I also got that email.

@WalterBishop Well it turned out my father knew a few people in Mobilink who worked with Mr. Azfar, he contacted him through them. Now I’m just waiting to get a new date and time from him about the interview and I had to go through the same what you went through, I tried to call him a couple of times, left like 5 emails or so in the stretch of two weeks, He didnt respond to any of them.

So did the admission’s office assign you a new EC or what?

@Chuckbass Sorry mate, I have no idea about RPI.

The procedure is simple. There are two tests: The NMO and the NSTC. I went from the NSTC test. You can only participate in this year’s NSTC if you will not be enrolled in university by July 30 2013. So if you’re going to uni this year you’re out of luck. The teachers are a mixed lot. Some are pretty good and some are pretty bad. And I also got an e-mail from RPI. Guess we’re not alone.

I got that RPI email too. I also received the paper application form from Swarthmore today; don’t know why.

Glaedr, if you’re interested in trading ‘Why Swarthmore’ essays, inbox me. I’m applying too.
