The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2016

@ leo118 how about you do just what they asked, just give the predicted grades ? An explanation like that could hurt your chances?

@ TiTaN666 14 for the mit peeps :(

I heard that someone from Roots got into Connecticut College with full aid. Probably ED2, since it’s not time for RD decisions just yet.

This is the last frontier (educationally) in your lives… I
You all will get into your dream schools… Just keep working hard as you have for past 4 years… Don’t lose faith in yourselves as well as religion… I’m going to pray for you guys… Hopefully you make it in…!!!

See, I’m not that big of a loser… CHEERS.

Anybody got a call for a Harvard interview?

@ usamatiwana-- I know I’m overthinking. But that’s exactly why I was known as a ‘dramaqueen’ in my class XD hahaha XD
BTW, I already submitted the International supplement…and my application status says ‘complete’…does that say that BEFORE one submits their midyear report or after? :S I reckoned they said it cuz the mid-year report requirement was waived for me…but dunno :/

Anyways, bluelove I think you’re right about this too. I’ll just give them what they want and pray to God its for all the good reasons XD haha XD

@ Hassaniman- thanks =D We need prayers. At least I need them. Keep praying =D

And cool39…I did! But apparently since I’m in the UAE its no biggie at all XD LMAO XD

lol do they interview each and every applicant in UAE?

Yep guys… But in return, I ask that all of you do the same for me…

Anyways, how many people r gonna be applying from Pakistan. Remember, you are not competing against the world but rather amongst other Pakistanis. Any ball park number of Pakistanis applying??

Well, it has all come down to this. You can never predict the future. Rather you would have to live through what your destiny has decided for you guys. Remember, it is you who make your future. God only helps to make it successful. Hence, getting into the universities here isn’t going to make you get a million dollar job. It is you who decide your future.

random but somewhat relevant thing… do you think you decide your own fate or has it been already laid out for you ?

From a religious perspective, your future has been decided.

From a human point of view, life seems so totally haphazard. It just seems that every thing happens spontaneously and that it is the result of our past actions combined with some factors that are inherent in hUman nature. Hence from this point of view, it is you who are the master of your destiny.

Even religion states that you can change your destiny by both praying and hardworking.

Hence, I like to think that whatever happens in my future is due to 90% tangible stuff and 10% totally random stuff that can’t be explained.

@cool39 heard 5 people in Islamabad got interview offers from Harvard and quite unfortunately, I’m not one of those 5 people :(.
I’m just hoping I get some good news from either MIT or Princeton and my life shall be complete :D

@TiTaN666 no offence to anyone in here- But if you ask me about who and what decides our fate, I’d say its us, the choices we take, the decisions and the amount of effort we actually put into something that is what shapes our fate. We ourselves are the architects of it, plus no one really is going to do something for you. You are solely responsible for what you do and how you do it and in the end you are going to pay for it anyways, good or bad, its all you and same goes for the fate. Often people blame certain circumstances and events on fate but I’d say differently, fate was never responsible for anything, it was always us and how we shaped it.

It kinda relates to this whole admission procedure, you cannot just leave things on the hands of fate and sit a side and watch as things roll, you have to put in an effort, work hard all year long to maintain a certain level of academics and ECs and these things aren’t written or decided in your fate, you are given the opportunities and chances and it all comes around to how you used them. You can’t just hope that getting into a good school is a part of your fate and since its already decided, you should simply sit back and enjoy :D

ok but here’s a paradox … if you for instance believe in religion … believe in one god… believe that who knows everything … the past and the future… YOUR past and YOUR future… that means he already knows whats going to happen… so you cant possibly change anything although it may seem to you that you can … what do you think ?

^ I have had such a question for a very long time and to be very honest I have never come across a rational, logical and reasonable answer. But if you ask me, this is the exact moment when faith kicks in. As in you’ll have to keep “Faith” that God Almighty knows exactly whats going to happen and is the boss and you can’t really outrun his plans. But what you can do is to try to do what you think is right and go for the things you can.

but whatever you try to do whatever you try to go for … was already going to happen … ah anyways… its a paradox ish thing as I said :P

That is actually a very effective critique of religion. Then there’s also the omniscience-omnipotence paradox ([Omnipotence and omniscience paradox - Iron Chariots Wiki](http://wiki.ironchariots.org/index.php?title=Omnipotence_and_omniscience_paradox)).

Personally, I believe that there is no free will. We are, after all, just a complex collection of atoms subject to physical laws. Here’s an interesting discussion on the topic: [Philosophy - Does “Free Will” Really Exist? (showing 1-50 of 193)](Philosophy - The Mind: Does "Free Will" Really Exist? Showing 1-50 of 300)

Ok wait a minute.

So if you think that our future has been decided, then are you saying that all of us just sit back and relax??

Exactly usamawatia, you r right. Now, I dont know if all of you are Muslims or Christians, but both religions state that a person has to first lay the foundation of success before God will come to his rescue.

After all, you can’t expect things to be spoon fed to you.

My dad is a great example. He started to work in Pakistan ever since he turned fourteen. He lived in government quarters ( he had six siblings and two parents living in two bed room apartment.) but he worked tirelessly and learned how to fix computers by tearing akart old ones. He made a little book on it. And then, slowly but surely, he started to fix computers with his best friend. That was how my dad fed his family coz his fathers salary was little. And then, one day, out of nowhere, his long lost friends call came from Singapore to go over there and work in his company. From there on, my father worked day and night in EMC ( one of the best companies in WOrld). Let me tell ya one thing, Singapore is unforgiving, both educationally and job wise. I should know coz I lived there for 13 years.

And two years ago, he got call from America to come here and work for EMC, though they were offering less salary than in Singapore. Yet my dad immediately accepted him so that I and my sister would have greater chances to lead successful lives.

Now, question yourself, why did his long list friend randomly call him to go to Singapore? ( his friend immediately left after my father reached Singapore)

@usama
hmm but still,They don’t at once contact everyone who they wish to…this process of contacting the prospective applicants continues till half of March so maybe…
by the way, what were your SAT scores etc?.

btw if in a country like Pakistan where there are a limited number of interviewers, you don’t get an interview call…is this a sure shot indication that you have been rejected?.
Because on their website its written that “interviews are only arranged if the Admissions Committee requires more information about the applicant. The lack of an interview will not adversely affect your application.”
