The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2016

Lol, what did you apply for Penn and Cornell?

@gtfotu: why do you think he shouldn’t have applied? It’s not good enough?
I’m asking because I’m thinking of applying next year.

@gtofu- Wharton at Penn (Suicide, I know, but I only did it because I had O level distinctions in these subjects) and Arts and Sciences at Cornell. You?

@gtofu- oh you meant I shouldn’t have applied to nyuad? :s it’s pretty good actually. acceptance rate of 1%.

@alibhai- what distinctions do you have? :)

@leo118- economics, business studies and islamiyat. though I’m predominantly a science student.

@titan yeah there was one average kid … the one who had a score of 2275 i think :stuck_out_tongue: :D

Lol, I’m already at college. I’m from the Class of 2015, remember? I was very active on that thread when it was time for me to apply, etc. Me and my friend are the ones who really pushed for pakistan to have it’s own forum. We were just a sub-forum under international admissions before. I just thought I’d stop by the class of 2016 to check up on how the class is doing this year, haha, and also if anyone needs help, I’m more than glad to. NYUAD is not too prestigious, but I guess it’s not too bad if you apply there for business. Given alibhai’s stats, NYUAD is on the border line of a bac up for him, honestly.

But since it’s still NYU, applying there for econ or business is not a bad idea given you have mediocre stats, because if you get in, it’s still NYU although it’s a satellite campus. So, you will have connections with Stern. Not a bad idea to get an affiliation with Stern if you have mediocre stats.

@alibhai: are those at world level or in the country?

Acceptance rate of 1%, need blind, and still a safety for a strong ivy applicant like Ali? Comes across as a joke to me to be honest. Definitely reconsidering my plans here XD

@gtofu- lol, when did you see my stats? :stuck_out_tongue: I had and still have doubts, but I checked the campus and faculty when I went there and they were pretty good. 15 kids who got into HYPS last year chose Nyuad over them- I even talked with one of those on campus. But obviously, I get your point.
Where are you currently enrolled? :)

@leo118- econ and islamiyat were world, business was regional.

yeap, stern is pretty amazing. I met a professor who teaches identical chemical engineering courses at stanford and nyuad, alternating between semesters. seemed pretty cool.

Woah, a very belated congrats I guess. As far as I heard though, distinctions don’t hold so much in the ivy admissions process. Sad really, lol!

Stern was one of my dream schools, until on a very unfortunate summer afternoon I found out NYU does not offer Any aid to intls, but that was only for the NY campus I guess.

Why the frack would someone choose NYUAD over HYPS unless it’s financial issues.

@gtfotu- you weren’t very clear in your previous post why you would only prefer nyuad as a safety (for Ali at least). Can you be a bit more specific?

Considering Ali’s stats, I’d say it’s not exactly a safety for him, but on the lower side. It’s a great school nevertheless. The only problem in the real world is that people will always be like “It’s NYUAD, not the real NYU” so that might be a hinderence in one’s career.

Oh, alright with that perspective. I’m sure it would still sound better than AUS, so still considering it XD
Are there any opportunities to transfer or study abroad at the NY campus if one gets into the AD one?

but still even 2250 is still something … not the ‘average’ student gets here :P

Yes, there’s a very great chance actually and a lot of people do that. I know someone who transferred to CMU in the US from CMU-Qatar.

@gtfotu- its the experience i guess. plus the professors. i made this friend from the US who got into Princeton EA and into MIT a couple of days ago, and he says he’s torn between choosing them over nyuad, if he gets in. if I am lucky enough to get into 2 colleges, I plan on spending every minute of my 30 days of April to decide where I want to go.

@leo118- i don’t know about that, but of course i hope they do. :p
