Oh, wait, you’re talking about americans. See, for them it’s compltely different. They choose according to what will fit them, not the name or prestige [that’s how you should actually choose a uni -whether it fits you or not] They have this mentality because I mean those unis are in their home country. It’s just like LUMS and NUST for them. So it’s actually a more exciting experience to go abroad for them

nvm this post

Lol, I realised I never told you where I was enrolled. I’m currently at UCLA.

@gtfotu- true, that. i think that’s a smart thing to do. we normally don’t have the luxury to choose due to financial restraints. plus, where we end up is as much our choice as our parents’. :p

I didn’t apply EA, and the first of of my 12 colleges releases its decision on the 23rd.

Wow, UCLA’s pretty good. How can you pay for it though? O.O

Yea, about that. I’m really grateful to Allah my dad works his a** to be able to support me. I intend to return to him every penny. Lol, puts pressure on you to do all the more better in everything.

Wow, that’s amazing. What school were you from?

LGS Islamabad

I only did my a levels from there

how’s life at UCLA ? …

Lol, where do I even begin. It’s very hectic and enjoyable and a complete experience. Seriously, enjoy all this time you have left before you go to college. It will never come again and you will be desperate for it. Mark my words.

^That’s what I say about college now!

as in how are the people there and stuff…

I believe it probably does matter if you are an American citizen or not when applying for admission to colleges in the US. For one, an American uni. cannot verify an international student’s financial claims. Essentially, an American university says to international students, we will take you word on it. This is not what it says to the American applicant, who has to submit Federal forms and IRS returns etc to establish need. Essentially, international applicants are given need blind financial assitance, so they cannot expect the same admission standard as those who are given need based assistance.

Also, keep in mind that within the US there are so many Pakistani and Indian Americans applying that their SAT scores are 100 points higher than the average White applicant. So, as a Pakistani, you are not providing any diversity that they do not already have. Admission for Asians is just tuff at the top schools.

@GtFotu, I couldn’t help but notice that you are a current UCLA student I recently got a likely letter from The HSSEAS. My intended major is mechanical engineering. However, I’ve developed this recent liking towards Economics. What would you say about changing majors at UCLA, is it a difficult process? I hope you’re enjoying your time there!

@MaineLonghorn: Isn’t that the natural tendency of humans? To cherish the past, lament its absence and become wise in the process? I’m sure retired people look favorably at the seemingly hectic life of the young labor force.

@Everyone Else: How are college decisions going so far? I’m still waiting to hear back from most of the colleges I applied to. How about MIT? As far as I know, only two Indians got admitted this year. Though on past estimates, I’m assuming 4 more got in :p

Thought I’d drop by here and say hi :)

I received an email from UCLA inviting me to their engineering open house… .saying that my application was really good blah blah … etc… does that count as a likely ?

It IS is a likely, Titan. Check out the (now dead) discussion on the UCLA CC forum. The most basic and logical reason of it being a likely is that they are inviting you to an event for admitted freshmen on a date which is after decisions will be released.

ENJOY :D

@tizil7 This is the list of all accepted Pakistani students this year so far…
http://pak2016.wikispaces.com/

WOW! That’s a very impressive list Arsalh! And it’s not just the States, but the entire world! I’m assuming that the names in the brackets represent different schools? If I’m correct, LGS seems like a feeder school to universities in the states - so many students :p

I really like the idea of such a list, but how did you manage to track students from all over Pakistan? I’d imagine it would have been a mammoth task

Yes those names represent schools.
And we have people here from all the popular schools! So as soon as they hear of an acceptance they add it there. And there are some schools which have their own FB pages, they share the news there and that is added to the list.
