Carleton…

so many rejections and waitlistings :/

Reed College decision also today?

Carleton waitlist. That’s two colleges down and two waitlists already. My college dream is quickly evaporating.

Alibhai I guess it’s cz you asked for a significant amount of aid!

Just wait for the ivies. I am sure you’ll do great!

same here man… hopes fading away

I suppose. But it could be anything. The worst part is that I’ll never know what it was that caused this (almost) rejection.
Thank you, and good luck to you all. :)

It is possible some of you guys may be getting waitlisted because these schools think you are Ivy material and only using them as your safeties. As you know once you are accepted and you do not attend a school, it’s Yield goes down as well as it’s ranking.

So, remember to write to the schools that have waitlisted you, if you are not accepted at your favorite college, and ask them if they will they accept you, if you promise to attend and withdraw all other applications? If you are accepted at your favorite school, you will have to withdraw your waitlisted application and their yield is protected.

A friend of mine got an acceptance Boston University. I’ve added that to the list. :)

I’d love to know what each of you has learnt from this process - university research, applications and decisions. I’ve learnt that universities look for depth and not breadth in your application. So, if you’re a prolific MUN-er, stick to that and do good in that instead of doing million other things and achieving nothing substantial. This applies to academics too, in my opinion. The friend of mine who got a likely letter from Columbia was in the student council but he wouldn’t give a damn about attending school events. He focused on his academics and so his transcript was spotless, as far as I know.

@Shahan- how many O level/AS level As did he have? Any distinctions? I’m asking because I have a feeling that he must have had a special talent or a wonderful essay. He doesn’t seem gifted academically- at least from a college point of view- since his SAT scores are relatively very low. Columbia sends only 100 academic LLs ALL over the world, and accepts very few, almost no internationals, who ask for aid. I know someone who got into HYP, Stanford and Dartmouth but didn’t make it to Columbia because he had asked for aid. Your friend must must must be special with something else. And that’s what its all about; they look for special people.

nah, he didnt have any distinction and i dont think he had any special talent too! His essay though might have been pretty good! He did ask for a lot of aid and i think he’ll only know of the aid package after 29th. I must say he has been very lucky :D

I have no decisions left. Except St Lawrence’s which I am supposed to get by mail…
MAIL Y U NO COME. I am still waiting for Richmond’s mail too. Urgh.

GUYS CHEER UPPP!

 1. There are decisions left. There is still hope. Decisions are unpredictable. I have seen it and am seeing it in this season.
 2. Colleges in Pakistan are NOT bad. I have been to LUMS and I actually love the place.

LUMS is pretty good but in my opinion the best place for Engineering would be GIKI.

so when is the next wave of admissions gonna come ? 29th now is it ?

@usama
the new NUST campus is hell alot better then GIKI

Just to get the discussion off college decisions, has anyone participated in psi-fi, either this year or last year or 2010?

@bluelove: Do you know anyone from your school who went to Psifi this year?

@Dapoliovsky Yeh I participated last year… did you?

Just heard that Amherst has started sending out invites to ‘diversity day’ or something like that to internationals…it’s like an early acceptance.

Bad news: didn’t get one.

LOL, a slight taste of rejection, and there’s something stuck in my throat already!!
