the answer was x^2=y^2

chinnu, this is CC.com, you know most people that took the psat are probably doing things they enjoy now, instead people on this website are eager to know what they got. I think the people on this site are among the top 20%

why is that the answer?

(X + Y) ( X^2 - Y^2)

X = -Y

((-Y) + Y) ((-Y)^2 - Y^2) = 0

because if x^2 = y^2, then one of the brackets would equal 0, thus the equation = 0

b/c x^2=y^2 must be true whereas x=-y is true only in certain cases

this was similar in principle to a problem in the practice PSAT they handed out

whenever you have two factors with variables = 0, you have to be careful to note that only one HAS to be zero.

in this case, x=y would imply that the second factor HAD to be zero, x=-y implies that the first factor HAD to be zero. x^2=y^2 gives possibilities such that only one of the two factors could equal zero, so it MUST BE true.

the other two choices took only a few seconds to realize that the were incorrect

lol gayed.

whoa i didnt even think that deep

for the writing section in the improving sentence. what was the answer to question about the british gov. putting forth some laws to protect child labor impacting child labor. i remember my answer starting with but

EDIT: it only impacted textiles

Oh i remember,
and yeah i think i put it only impact textiles instead of the impacting one

water fluid was 30

water problem: 30

darn >.< I put 48

yeah i think it was ", but it only impacted textiles" (?)

was your choice like this "but it only impacted textile" or something along those lines

i dont think that was a choice
