Good luck to everyone!

-Stephanie BC '10

Good luck. <3

i don't think anybody should include their weighted grades because all high schools weight differently and all colleges weight grades differently...just thought i should throw that out there

it'd be cool for people to post other schools they applied to and/or got into... and if barnard is their 1st choice (if not what other school)

good luck!

barnard is pretty much my top choice so i really hope i get in.....ahhhhh

just got waitlisted at wellesley, accepted at brandeis, ucsd, uc davis, uc santa barbara, waiting to hear from the rest but i really have my heart set on barnard

So far: waitlisted at Wellesley and Bryn Mawr
Accepted at NYU

Applied (before senioritis and dreadful last report card) to:
Brown ED-deferred
Harvard
Princeton
Columbia
Swarthmore
Carnegie
Cooper Union

Given the waitlists at Wellesley and Bryn Mawr, my chances at any of the above look dismal...Cooper would be my first choice, but that's a dream...

I applied to (in my order of preferred choice)

Georgetown
Barnard
William and Mary
Bard
University of Georgia

Barnard might be second, but it is practically interchangeable with Gtown

Deferred EA to Gtown
Accepted Early into Honors College at Georgia.

I applied to (in order of preference as of now):
1. Columbia-ED: rejected
2. Barnard: ?
2. Georgetown: ?
2. Penn: ?
5. UVA: likely letter
5. Smith: ACCEPTED!
7. WM: ACCEPTED!

I REALLY hope I get into Barnard because I'm not holding my breath on getting into G-town or Penn and I'm not too excited about any of my backup schools. We'll see...Good luck everybody!!!

ACCEPTED!!! (according to the website...It says "Welcome, Sara. We hope to see you at one (or more) of our spring events.")

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: As I've said on other posts, I really like Barnard's supplement. For my Common App essay, I wrote about my trip to Spain in fifth grade and how looking back I wish I had appreciated it more. For Why Barnard, I wrote "A Day in the Life of Me at Barnard" which was really fun to research and write. For my Daily Ritual, I wrote about how I listen to the BBC News when I fall asleep each night. For Govt official, I wrote about global warming. For Favorite Character, I picked Nora from "A Doll's House".
[] Teacher Recs: I assume they were awesome, I've yet to read them. My English teacher from both 9th and 11th grade saw my evolution through high school and how much my writing and thought process has improved. Plus he loved me. My IB Anthropology teacher has only known me this year academically but he know a lot about my extracurricular involvement and he loves me. I also sent an additional recommendation from my newspaper advisor who has known me for all four years and is more like a friend than an authority figure. Oh, and she loves me.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably pretty generic. She's new and doesn't really know what she's doing, so who knows...
[] Hook (if any): Extracurricular involvement?

[/ul]Other Factors: I didn't have an interview, I applied literally the day the application was due. I think my research and essays made up for it though.

WAITLISTED:

Stats:

GPA: School doesn't have a GPA ranking system, but from what I've learnt from teachers, I'd have a 4.0 (unweighted) if they did, despite the fact that I flunked 2 subjects in junior year....go figure!

Rank%: Top 10%

SAT I: 2100 (V740,W740,M620)- taken once
SAT II: Lit 730, World Hist 620

ESSAYS: I plan to major in English, so I'm hoping that they were pretty good! I think my favo(u)rite one was the Daily routine essay- wrote it as a poem, and basically revealed the ritual only in the last line. ('Everyday I dream.')
For fictional character, I wrote about Sara Crewe from 'A Little Princess'...childish, I know, but I love her!

TEACHER RECS: Good- they rated me as one of the top few they've ever seen.
COUNSELOR REC: Even better than the teacher recs.

HOOK: Nah.

LOCATION: Calcutta, India.

SCHOOL TYPE: Private; competitive- 95-100% attend 4 year college.

ETHINICITY: Indian.
GENDER: Really?

LEGACY: No
RECRUITED: No

IMP. EC'S: Editor of school newsletter, Co-director of high school musical + several other plays, Won a bunch of state and one seriously prestigious national-level award for writing. Designed a product line with the National Institute of Fashion Design to integrate rural art with commodities, and thus provide rural artisans with a means of sustainable livelihood.

I think the fact that I asked for financial aid (Barnard has only 3 financial aid packages for international applicants) might have worked pretty strongly against me. Ah well, what're you gonna do? The overall costs work out to roughly Rs. 2,000,000 in Indian currency. =(
