The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

OH boy, am I getting anxervous! Well I’ve been through a lot through out my years at cc and I hope the outcome is a good one.

My gpa is a 3.49 only because I had a tough fall semester. My major is Environmental Econ in CNR and unfortunately, I received a D in Calc 1 which is a prereq. Subsequently, I am now retaking the class and am confident that I will receive at least a B. Without the calc grade, I’d have roughly a 3.7. This situation becomes tricky because if I get admitted, I would have to take Calc II over the summer. I am in TAP and my Personal Statements/Extracurricular’s are stellar. Internship at a tech company over the summer and before that, I worked 20 hours a week and a lot more EC’s. I am really hoping the whole “holistic approach” Berkeley says they use really goes in my favor. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope you get everything you desire. Just remember, it’s out of our hands now. Whatever happens, happens for the best.

I’d like to get some opinions from people. Say I get rejected, what do you guys think about me staying a 3rd year and reapplying? Berkeley has always been a dream school for me and I feel as if the school has so much to offer that I don’t want to go anywhere else. Do you guys think it’s worth staying a 3rd year?

The wait is so stressful!!!

11 more days!! less than two weeks can’t wait to get my heart broken haha.

@ucastell‌
Not unless it’s already broken on the 18th from other schools… (I hope not though) :((

@hoops786‌

An extra year isn’t a big deal, but remember that the more classes you take, the harder it is to get your gpa up. I’m guessing you are going to have around 60 units at the end of spring and 90 if you take the extra year, but I think the transfer limit is 70 semester units.

I think I read somewhere on this forum that you need all your prereqs done by spring, so sorry to say but you’re likely to be rejected if they are stringent on having prereqs done.

That said, as much as I would like to berkeley, I don’t think I would ever consider it as my sole choice. UCLA, davis, SB, and other schools are unique with their own strengths that even your dream school may lack.

If you end up being accepted, congrats. Since I don’t haven’t seen your app I can’t make a clear call on whether or not you’ll be rejected, but if you are, I would try to look into what other schools offer even if you do go back for a third year to go for Berkeley again

@Loyshi‌
Wow, with all those information on your financial aid page, you are in! Why were they classified you as their undergraduate student and have an enrollment and estimate graduate date if you are not admitted.

@Loyshi‌, to be honest the only school that would really break my heart is Berkeley haha I already got into UCSD and tagged at UCD, so i’m just waiting to hear from UCLA and UCB.

@ucastell‌ Although i’ve already got in to UCSD as well and tagged to UCI, thats exactly how i am! UCB is literally my dream school! i just need to hear back from the big 2 UCLA and UCB. I cant wait >.<

@ucastell‌

You’re in Berkeley’s TAP program, your EC’s are stunning, your GPA is great, and you want to help people through medicine. YOU’VE BEEN PUBLISHED IN A SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL.

If you get rejected, my heart will be broken, lol. In fact, if I get accepted and you get rejected, I’ll write an appeal letter to Berkeley asking them to deny me and have you take my place.

@ucastell‌
For those of us, who are in berkeley’s TAP and have at least the avg GPA of those admitted in that major, I think we’re panicking for nothing… (Myself included) I just hope what moon9kittie said is true. #-o

These next 10 days will be so much harder than the previous 5 months.

@Cayton, thank you you’re always so nice :slight_smile: I appreciate it, but honestly UCB is so unpredictable I know of people who have gotten rejected even with TAP and of someone who got in with a 3.1! lol so yeah it’s crazy. But thank you, we just have ten more days to go :). I hope you get into UCLA!

@Bookham, I know!! there’re just something about Berkeley that truly captivates me… it’s like a mixture of academics and social life, plus their prestige doesn’t hurt haha.

@Loyshi, that’s true plus they help you write your appeal in case you get rejected, but I just don’t want to get my hopes up even if we have an “80% chance” haha.

My school only has UCLA TAP and I was too lazy to even sign up for that cause I didn’t want to join the honors program :frowning: Good luck you wonderful bastards; hopefully I’ll get into berkeley too.

When they say decisions will be released Friday evening…will this perhaps be around 5 p.m.?

@ocnative‌
I think the official decision is around 5pm considering the freshmen were also around 5pm.

@ucastell‌
We got this. :D

@ucastell I have to agree with @Cayton. It’s awesome what you’ve been doing and you’ve shown the enthusiasm, passion, and diligence that UCB is looking for!

It’s crazy to know that all our hard work has come down to these last 10 days of waiting…

@FinanceWiz‌

It’ll be the longest week and a half of our lives, lol.

@Cayton Easily lol. But to pass the time, Netflix has been doing a great job at keeping me occupied!

I really hope all you guys make it. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts. Without a doubt, Berkeley is the best of the best! I loved Sproul Plaza. Craziness all the time.

@FinanceWiz‌

I’ve been watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine(A great show even if you aren’t nerdy like me and especially if you care about philosophy, ethics in particular) and playing Super Street Fighter 4 to pass the time. :P

@lindyk8‌

Yeah, and I hope your daughter gets in to Berkeley!
