@Loyshi How long did it take for your summer session application to process? I was reading the Berkeley trick thread and someone said that you don’t get the login info for CalNet until they process your application and that it takes about a week. Is that true?

@bluebottle
Both my friend and I both got the CalNet ID a little over a week after the original application submission

@Loyshi Well, then there’s really no point of doing it now since the decisions will come out anyway in a little over a week. Thank you though. Let us know if the trick works.

Listening to the back and forth, I decided to chime in. My daughter applied to both, but desperately wants UCLA. In fact, if by some fluke she got into Berkeley, she would go to UCSB or UCSD instead. I went to Berkeley (back then it was quarter system BTW) and while I liked it I cannot say you feel any college community the way it exists at other schools. You’re just plopped down in a city, and a lot of it is grungy. I was amused when so many kids mentioned the massive spirit, etc they observed on Cal Day. Well, you know what? It was Cal Day. In this time frame, I would pick UCLA any day.

Hey guys! Good luck to everyone, the next two weeks are going to fly by. I’m currently a Math Major with GPA 3.93 (but this is at American U). Looking to transfer into Geological Engineering, but haven’t taken differential or biology yet… Anyone else who doesn’t get in want to split rent for a cardboard box and bum in on classes?

@Bookham
Thanks! Your stats also look good, and you’ve been accepted to UCSD already. Congrats!

I’m so tired about all the post regarding the vibe of UCB or any other school for that matter. College is what you make of it. You could go to UCSB/UCSC (I forget which one is the “party school”) and just be a recluse and never go out of your dorm. Or you could go to Cal which is allegedly the dullest campus and join a bunch of clubs, make friends, and I’m sure there are parties and have a lot of fun.

Cal is not the dullest campus.

Arguably, UC Irvine is

@ocnative Really? Irvine is dull? Can you elaborate more on this? I was really looking forward to irvine

Yeah, I know it’s more of a commuter school with a more serious side, but my younger daughter wants to go there. They seem like they have a lot of spirit. Feedback appreciated.

I live near UCI and been there a few times, and I’ve been to UCLA and UCSB for comparison. I think out of these 3 schools, UCSB has the best campus since the area feel so open. UCI has a big, grassy round about area in the middle that gets really hot in the summer, and bugs congregate to harass people walking in their territory.

It’s got like clusters of buildings around so you feel like you’re trapped and stuff. I personally dislike UCI because of that so when I went to take calc 2 at UCI over the summer, I dropped because it just feels like you’re encased and I felt super uncomfortable there.

@lindyk8 If your daughter want a school that has a lot of spirit, I think UCLA is the best bet. UCI is a nice safe area, but it is quiet and boring.

@onehandedred Thanks! I will definitely visit the campus before making final decision(given that I got in)

Here’s to the 18th! (in a berkeley thread)

@lkm291 i think they say that cause Irvine is “boring”. like i live in Irvine right now and honestly i love it lol, its so nice, and peaceful, no need to worry about crime or anything too crazy happening. but the downside is that again nothing too crazy happens, so people might think it gets kinda boring at times. but honestly i find there are plently of fun things to do, you just gotta look :)

@Bookham Thanks for your input! I like peaceful and safe environment, not a fan of party school and all that craziness. I have heard good things about irvine and really looking forward to visit the campus

@lindyk8 @lkm291

I agree with @Bookham. Everyone in Orange County kind of agrees that Irvine is the least fun place around. It’s nice though, there are good food places, malls, some hiking places, and the area is nice overall. For the most part, however, I would expect students to find other areas in OC to have a good time.

The general UC Irvine campus is plain and has way too many commuters, IMO.

@onehandedred the 18th?

Thanks all for feedback on UCI. Gonna show to my daughter…

@Loyshi
My Net Cost did not show up until exactly one week prior to the decision date. On that day, the same page indicated that I was an undergraduate student, enrolled for fall and spring, and had financial aid package with gift aid included. Before that, I only had the 2012-2013 page set up for me and nothing else. They also requested additional documents from me.
Did they request additional documents from you through the financial aid website? This is also a great indication if you have been admitted.

@moon9kittie
Thanks for the info! I hope it’s true then, since i see net cost. Only missing gift aid which you already clarified.
For 2014-2015, they are asking for a college enrollment verification since i have a brother going to college this year. I see undergraduate, enrolled for fall and spring, dependent student, estimated grad. 2016, housing for fall and spring residence hall.
