It’s fairly unknown. Berkeley does not have the nice admissions statistics that UCLA does for each major.

@sonic23
That’s still a good GPA, dude. Are at least doing your prereqs right now?

A few years ago it was in a group of majors with a 23.1% admit rate.

Yeah I check this thread all the time, but I always notice how many people keep posting over at UCSD.

@ocnative
Looks like there’s a Political Science major a few below you.

@sonic23
I don’t know your major, but you have to have a shot with a 3.8.

@ocnative I was only supposed to be missing one prereq after spring, and working on two this semester but I am going to be dropping one, my teacher is a bit impossible to deal with. So now with two pre reqs missing I feel its pushing it.

@RamonaFalls you are a bad bad girl. I LOVE it! B-)

@music1990 History, I almost applied as an Art History major with the intention of changing it to History only to make it easier to get in but decided not to.

From what one UCB rep told me even though History isn’t impacted they lump it together with a bunch of other social sciences and thats what makes it harder to get in. I know that probably makes no sense but I forgot how she worded it, but she did show me a chart, which she pointed out Art History had a smaller group of majors it was sorted with therefore less applicants to compete for spots and easier to get in.

sorry if that makes no sense!! This was in oct so i can’t remember word for word

The reason why the UCSD has so many views and posts is because it was created months ago, plus decisions are not all released on the same day which makes people very anxious about hearing others getting their decisions etc… UCB releases all their decisions on the same day so people already know when to expect their decisions.

@sonic23
No that makes sense. History is part of the same group of majors that had a 23.1% acceptance rate in 2012. That really isn’t too bad. But I don’t know what their policy on missing prerequisites is. My major doesn’t even have specific prerequisites for community college students to take. It just outlines the general type of classes we should be taking and pretty much says do your best lol

42% acceptance rate for Arts and Humanities majors! I don’t think applicants of those majors are that nervous honestly.

^ Where did you get the number?

@bhav007
I have my sources…

Lol right here:
http://students.berkeley.edu/files/admissions/12626_5.info_transadm.pdf

UGH i literally think about the 25th all the time :l i really want to get in as im sure we all do, but im applying as a chemical biology major which basically describes my ideal major to a T; however it only has a 21.1% acceptance rate i think my chances seem slim but i gotta hope for the best.

@ocnative
I’m in that group and I’m still nervous as hell! Because who knows what the admit rate for each specific major is that’s part the group…I’m hoping they’re all about the same.

Music major, right? @music1990

@ocnative
Yeah but I kind of want to double major in English as well. I haven’t looked into too much though. Two high demand majors I knoww. jk

@music1990
Berkeley has a top ranking English program! You should definitely look into that.

Where are all the Haas applicants? I feel like we never see them on here

I majored in English at Berkeley. Rethink that @music1990. ;)

I app’d for comp lit but I only have a 3.4 so I expect nothing. But the major has 0 prereqs so at least I got that going for me

@lindyk8
I should rethink it as in I should major in English? Or not? I would like to major in music and English, but don’t know if I would be able to finish both in time. I would be willing do summer classes or whatever I needed.

Did you like the English program?

@music1990 cal has a really strict unit cap so make sure it’s even possible to finish both degrees. I wanted to major in lit and math but it would be impossible at berkeley because they have no overlap and it would end up being too many units

@music1990, I was kind of saying it as a joke (but kind of not). It’s very heavy-duty reading, a lot of Chaucer, etc, and a lot of writing and esoteric theory. I think it was the esoteric theory that got me. Literally, sometimes you friggen couldn’t even understand what someone’s theory was, it was written in such an obtuse, convoluted manner. After I got out, I briefly dated a Prof there who specialized in Shakespeare, and it was very much about deconstruction and Jacques Derrida, and literally you could not understand a damn thing the Prof was writing. And he laughed and told me he specifically wrote so that it was impossible to follow - everyone did - it was the hallmark of lit theory construction. He thought it was funny. And he was a top scholar. So if you like that… I did like Shakespeare the best, I will say.
