Anyone who was able to go to Cal Day, how did it go?

I went but wasn’t able to stay long and didn’t do much other than attend the informational talk on my major and go to the museum of paleontology and the museum of vertebrate zoology.

I was bummed because I really wanted to go to their botanical garden and try to get a glimpse into dorm rooms and just a better feel for the campus in general…

I wasn’t there in the morning, but i thought that it was actually pretty hot.

I went and checked out Unit 2, but i don’t think you can actually see the dorms from the inside. I saw tours that took them to the lobby of the buildings, but i don’t think they went up.

I remember that article, it was a very good read. Too bad it only gave the inside scoop to freshman and not transfer, but the general idea from it can probably apply to transfer though

My own personal belief is they have things they are looking for we just never know. Maybe they need a cello player that year. That cello player gets in, but the year before or the year after he would not have. Maybe they need a soccer player. Maybe nearly every acceptee to a major is Asian, or male, or whatever, and they need to diversify (they’ll never say that, but of course they look at overall configuration). I also think they stress putting hardships in personal essays so they can help some, but discard others as red flag candidates. It’s reverse psychology.

Anyone hear by any chance have a CalNet ID?

I’m asking this is b/c I have one. I’m able to see info about 2014-2015 in myFinAid like cost of living books, tuition and tuition, but not gift aid yet.

Sorry that you couldn’t make it out.
The anthropology meeting was alright, I just wish I had thought of more questions to ask them because when else am I going to get to talk to anthropology students at Cal before decisions, you know?

The meeting was led by two male students who I believe were both seniors, one focusing on archeology, the other on sociocultural. They gave a list of people/books that students should probably know a bit about before going into upper division courses, which I’m sure will be helpful.

They said most students in the anthro department are great and that the classes range from being kind of hard to intensely hard. They also gave the impression that there is no room to mess around at Cal, where most kids get at least a 98% on everything all the time.

If I am being totally honest, they somewhat confirmed the negative ideas I had about Cal being an overtly competitive and cut throat place.

I signed up for a summer session, so i have one. With the Calnet ID, i have access into tele bear, telefacts and etc.
I’m trying to find someone who has one too to compare

I want to sign up for summer session lol just to see if my financial aid is up… does it require a fee? can you just sign up without enrolling in any class?

@wintergreeen
Ya… you would have to pay for the class upfront as a visiting student. IF things don’t go as plan, you would just lose $100 nonrefundable. I don’t think you can not sign up and get a code. If you want the Calnet ID that badly, enroll in a class, drop it and pay $100 just for the ID.
