keefer: when you say apply early, do you mean ED or just send in the application early =D

applying early means... apply early like get everything received at their office by end of september or the first few days of october. umich doesn't not have ED.

So I guess this is the UMich chances thread...I too am afraid to ask but here it goes. I'm majoring in international business btw.

I'm currently attending community college in suburban Chicago. My the end of this semester (after which I will send out my application) I'll have 31 credits completed. By the end of this whole year, I'll have 45. Technically, I graduated in the class of 2008, but since I graduated early, I took classes in both the spring and summer semester. Right now I have a 4.0 GPA (out of 4.0) and can definitly keep that up until the end of the semester. I also am on school news paper, tutor English, am part of a business club, and am planning on doing a business internship in Ghana, Africa this coming summer. I'm retaking the ACT's in october and, since I take practice tests like day and night, am pretty confident that I can break a 30. I'm also sure I can get excellent teacher recommendations, though I'm not sure they're needed for transfers.
The problem is, my HS GPA is only around a 3.0 because of extenuating circumstances it would take too long to explain here. But anyways, I was out on a medical leave which caused my GPA to go way down both junoir and senoir year (I was out on medical leaves twice). I'm definitely planning on submitting a letter explaining this when I apply and possibly using that as part of my essay (one essay option this year is something like write about something difficult you've overcome). Anyways, but throughout HS I traveled around the world with people to people student ambassadors (to australia, south america, and europe), was a junoir leader with that organization, am a member of the national society of HS scholars, was editior of my school news paper, a school student ambassador, and part of latin club.
If I break a 30 on the ACT and keep my GPA at a 4.0 do I have any chance of getting in??? What other ECs are good to get involved in??? When explaining my medical leaves should I get proof from the hospital, etc??

This year, im taking Bio (?), Calc BC (?), and Psychology (?)

thanks. Could you comment on the clubs issue? The UM application asks for the position of leadership you held in a club, which makes me inclined to believe that non leadership club activities are useless.
I've been told the same by many UM students.

U of M does not take AP courses as higher than a 4.0
