The Official USC Baccalaureate/MD Thread!

Send them to USC first, but I believe you also have to send in a photocopy of your ACT scores with your Bacc/MD application to the College. Look on the instructions and it tells you everything.

Keck has no CEEB code, and on the Bacc/MD app they only ask you to self-report your scores (no photocopying from what I remember).

ok thanks for the clarification

hmm....

what does usc mean by attaching a 'resume' to your bacc/md app? what kind of format are they looking for? do they just want clubs/activities/work/awards... or do they want grades/test scores too?

i was wondering the same thing about the resume

I put my grades and test scores at the top, then I had a section for extracurriculars with hours/week, honors and awards, and community service. Try to keep it to a page, though.

I'm glad to hear about the importance USC seems to place on diverse students as opposed to students who focused solely on medical EC's - most of my EC's, especially the ones I'm most proud of, don't relate to medicine in the least. Also, my favorite/best courses in high school have been more related to social sciences...hopefully that helps?

Also, what would be better - a recommendation from a teacher or a counselor? The teacher has had me for one semester in AP Gov, and he knows me fairly well because I was in Debate Team for four years and he's the coach. But, he already wrote a recommendation for undergrad anyways.

Also does undergrad need a counselor rec?

so do we need to send any of the regular undergrad materials (i.e. transcript, any reports, SATs) to the college of arts and sciences? or will they just obtain this info from your file in the undergrad office?

I think for my undergraduate application, I had a recommendation from my counselor, but for my Bacc/MD application, I had a recommendation from my English teacher and my Chemistry teacher.

Sports, the College will get it all from your undergraduate application. Just send in what they tell you to on the checklist.

thanks ppenguin, so just one time sending

oh and regarding the doctors w/o borders essay, do we make up a case, or do we take one that's happened/happening?

I'm not 100% sure, because I personally did the CNN one, but I know people who did the MSF essay and they all did actual cases.

Sports,
What is the doctors w/o borders essay for?

Ppenguin,
What is the CNN and MSF(National Merit Scholarship Finalist?)?

Thanks,

For your second essay, you can write a topic as if you were a reporter for CNN or as a doctor for MSF (Medecins son Freres -- Doctors Without Borders).

I was going to write over CNN topic but I don't really understand how it's supposed to be. Do I just write a plain essay over a social or political issue making medical news or do I have to write it in a certain way?

same question as ^^

any ideas how to approach it? is it formal, simple, like a report for school?

I'm a journalism major, so I responded from a journalist's perspective how I would logically piece the story together, where I would go to get certain information and what I'd be looking for. I think that the nature of the question, however, is open to interpretation and you can pretty much have fun with it.

On another note, the applications for the Bacc/MD are due COMPLETED AND POSTMARKED by December 1st, so keep that in mind. Best of luck to everyone applying!

Does it have to be RECEIVED or POSTMARKED by December 1?
Thanks.

i believe POSTMARKED but someone confirm this

Is the resume supposed to be inside the envelope with your transcript and recommendation letters or is there a place on the online application to attach it?

On the website, it says POSTMARKED by December 1st.

asianamy, last year there was a place to attach it online.
