The Official USC Baccalaureate/MD Thread!

Hopefully we can have a reunion next year! I was born in the U.S. but I've lived in Australia and half of my family is still over there. Yay Aussies!

yeah yay aussies woot! its a pipe dream, but hopefully it will happen! and technically this year... its 2009 already, how weird?

ppenguin757... did you apply from australia or were you living in the US when you graduated?

sooo nervous... matter of weeks now! I'm going to be heartbroken if I don't get a letter in january/february

Alright, so to clarify a couple questions from the USC thread:

From what I heard, they got around 1150 applications for the program this year. They're going to invite back about 100 or so of you guys for interviews and you'll have your pick of three interview dates. It doesn't seem to matter which day you go; about the same amount of us from each interview day got in. Keep an eye out for a scholarship letter, though, because the interview days usually fall next to the Trustee and Presidential interview days so you can plan accordingly.

I was living in the U.S. when I graduated. I've lived in Chicago most of my life, but, as of like 5 years ago, I've retained dual citizenship.

It's only a few more weeks until you guys get your letters. One way or another, I'm sure you're all amazing students and you guys will get in somewhere great.

P.S. beeish, if you do get an invitation and you fly Qantas, I'd suggest looking ahead of time and trying to get on an A380 either to LAX or back. They are the coolest things EVER.

I'm actually already going to LA in mid feb... cause I've got family there... it was planned ages ago, before I knew when interviews were even scheduled... flying qantas and the A380 both ways xD made sure my mom booked it that way :)

beeish: Cool, thanks for the explanation. I'm Indian but I was born in the USA. When I go to India it's always been a world apart, but the food is always good.

I never mentioned this earlier (and I guess it's sort of a minor thing...), but I realized that there was a grammatical error in the first sentence of one of my essays...it's fairly noticeable as it's a wording error that would make one stumble, even though after showing the essay to 3 different teachers 5 or 6 times it was never caught...will that hurt significantly?

I doubt it would hurt significantly. Like everyone says on CC, everyone is human and we all make mistakes sometimes :).

Ahh everyone is so interesting... Which makes it all the harder if we don't make it. We'll never get to meet each other. I can't believe there were so many applications!! That's like less than 10% will be interviewed... oh well... I'll have my faith!!!

and beeish.. yeah that'd be sweet to meet a fellow aussie! and perhaps ppenguin757. Like the three muskateers... hahaha

Gosh I really hope to make it! Less than a month to go.... :) Good Luck Everyone!!!

hahaha aw i hope you all make it to have ur australian union
i wanna meet an aussie (am i allowed to say that even though im not australian?) so itd be awesome to meet three at once! (never met one before)

everyone wanna post their stats?
i want an interview sooooooo badly

Yeah, that's quite a few applicants. When I did the informational interview for USC undergrad on the 13th, the woman interviewing me said that the person managing the bmd applications works in the same office, and said that there were 800 some applicants (I think). I guess the final tallies were higher than expected then.

I'm afraid to post my stats since I'm afraid they don't stack up as well as those of others here...I don't have research unfortunately. I have 150 hours of hospital volunteering, but no shadowing or stuff like that unfortunately.

same here quadomatic! the lady i talked to for my interview said they had like 800 apps. and this was after the deadline...i'm confused.

stueydue... of course your allowed to say that... us aussie are damn awesome, although I have been known to play up my american side from time to time lol we'll have our own little aussie club... lol it will be damn awesome... I'm declaring that now! with our retarded accents and our kangaroos.

gah I don't even want to think that I am competing with other people... putting thought out of my head... i'm sooooo nervous!!!!

I wish I still had my accent :(. I love the accent! lol

And maybe I heard wrong, but I heard applications went up and last year the count was around 1000. I hope for your guys' sake the number is less so there's less competition.

And to make you guys feel better, the amount of medical experience I had: NONE. Zero. Zip. Nada. Just be yourselves and relax! :)

i like the accent only when I'm in the states xD here's its like meh I still stick out cause I sound american to australians and australian to americans... and its like go away I don't know what I am.

I'm seriously scared about getting an interview.. I won't even talk about to anyone except on here...

my SAT scores and GPA are kinda low but I'm hoping my essays and work experience at a children's hospital will like compensate...

I got rejected from UofMiami HPM (didn't get an interview), so now I'm kind of freaking out. I hear HPM doesn't take many people (10 ppl?) but it still worries me that I didn't even get an interview request.

Hopefully USC works out okay!

ahh I just had a revelation that we find out in about a week!!! I know that doesn't sound that enlightening but considering I've been waiting since... forever... it's pretty freaky!!!!

Hope everyone's doing well!!!!

I know! it scaring the crap out of me, plus our uni offers here come out this wednesday too... not that I care that much, but its like my safety schools so its like AHHHHH in my brain at the moment, and my head is like I know I'm going to be devestated in a week so I am enjoying my blissful innocence lol

are letters mailed out yet???

Not that I know of...it was said earlier in this thread that they're mailed out at the end of the month.

Jeez, every time I see a new post in this thread I have a mini heart attack!

same here quadomatic.

ahh freakin me out here!!!..lol jk

So this should be the week of scholarship interview invites right? Since it's the third week of january???

Woo.. that was a close one. This week is gonna be like heart attack all over the place!!
