The Pantyhose Debate!

Well, thanks BunsenBurner. Lol! It’s just my opinion.

I agree it’s different in summer. Need to wear sandals, and somehow bare legs would look odd in summer lightweight fabric.

Because HI is warm pretty much year round, I haven’t worn stockings for decades, yup, even when wearing dresses that reveal my knees. Even for S’s wedding last weekend and formal dinners, naked legs! I saw some legs in stockings and tights and others without. It’s all what people prefer—I’m of the live & let live persuasion. Haha!

Yikes. (gift link)

Interesting article, and I agree this may be a strong lead into a pantyhose revival.

My fishnets with rhinestones all over. Might not be your thing, but I really liked the look as did hubbie.

Yike indeed. Won’t catch me wearing pantyhose as pants. In fact, I’ve decided that some of my leggings need a dress (or long sweater) on top if I wear them out of the house.

For son’s outdoor wedding event, I wore long dress and sandals. But I did have my low black pumps packed as “mud shoes” in case needed. Still have the sheer blackish hose I bought in case it was cold. They will definitely get used this winter.

Had email fad or these denim leggings. Not nearly as shocking as wearing just-pantyhose  Various colors, including black. Cheaper than some of the tights I’ve seen.

The last time I used pantyhose was to hang and dry onions. I don’t miss them, although conmama’s sparkly fishnets are wonderful.

One thing that makes it is to not wear pantyhose is that pants are a fine option for women. Many decades ago it was not acceptable (or fashionable) to wear pants. Now if weather is lousy, we can pick an outfit with slacks.

When I was in elementary school in the 70s, my father was a “women and girls wear skirts guy”. Mom went along. If it was snowy, I wore pants under my dress and took them off in the classroom (or the class cloakroom some years). Childhood Sundays meant dresses/skirts year round. Finally Mom told Dad if the minister’s wife could wear pants to church sometimes in the winter, we could too.

Looking good, conmama! The fishnets are really elegant (& still fun!)

Gorg outfit.

It won’t make sense, but for me, your black pantyhose are a whole other ballgame than the old “nude or suntan” ones. In a positive way!

Was it hard to get them on with the rhinestones or could you feel them??

My frustration is that my legs get cold easily (even in air conditioning in the summer) so I feel that I only have two choices - wear pants or pantyhose when attending formal events. I’m not a fan of pants for formal events (I just don’t feel pretty the same way I do when wearing a dress), so that leaves me with a dress. But unless it 's a summer outdoor event, I will be cold. But it’s only me and the other old ladies who are wearing pantyhose these days. Sigh. I want another option.

I was actually getting ready to wear these super sheer nude hose with another dress. You really couldn’t tell I was wearing them except my legs were flawless. They were toeless. I would never have worn them back in the day to work because they aren’t durable enough…but for a cocktail dress…yes.

They were actually easier to get on because they are open knit. But I don’t pull up quickly or fast. For all my hose, I pull as far up as I can without tugging then wet my hands and start at the feet and help the glide up leg by leg.

I could feel the rhinestones but they weren’t itchy or tickle.

The old ladies at this wedding weren’t wearing them and their legs looked horrible.

The stockings look great. What a festive outfit!

It’s interesting. I posted pictures and thought that hose was a no for my outfit. We had warm weather so it worked out. You wore hose with your dress and I think it looks perfect with yours.

I think the rule is that you can do either. I do agree that hose works to cover those hard working legs!

I think all black with your outfit was too much. The length of the dress needed a break. Those super sheer hose would have worked, you know…I think it boils down to what your legs look like.

I agree. And I think that the dress covered my knees was helpful. My legs have been spared by varicose veins also.
