THE PLACE W/ A GIANT FERRIS WHELL NOONE RIDES.. WE ARE CHICAGO..bam bam bam bam

So I visited Chicago for 4 days and visited the college and hung out in the downtown! I stayed at Presidential plaza, right behind (or infront of, depends) Sears towers. It was great! and loads of fun!

U of Chicago!

So, I took a cab down to UChicago since I was traveling alone. When I got by the museum by 47th street.. I was pretty nervous. I thought Chicago to be this place which I cant describe... u know, those places with genius mixed in w/ some drugs.
I got a map and started exploring. . FIrst thing which came in mind was Hogwarts. The campus has got to be one of the most beautiful I've seen, and I've seen all, P'ton, Harvard, MIT (ew!).. Architecture was great! I walked around for some time and randomly talked to students.

MOST OF THE STUDENTS were happily accomodating, except for one (finals week, which i realized afterwards)... I was happy as heck to find out that the people were ... erm.... normal! I took a tour.. had my appointment/interview w/ the tennis coach.. had lunch there.. went to many places over the campus (Oriental.. COOP.. new athletics center..)

I have to say I am very impressed.. the campus is just beautiful, the academics are great, the people are WOW.. i especially like their IM sports program with the housing set-up.. the campus area is as nice as it can be.. I was just shocked.... just an amazing place to be.

Things I did not like:
The biggest thing about UChicago is the crime around the campus. I mean, since I was traveling alone, I had to catch a bus downtown and I walked pretty far out to go to a bus stand, which I couldve easily have gotten right by the campus (silly me). The areas outside the perimeter of the college is scary.. which kind of made me reconsider UChicago as a choice. But I talked to many people about it, and now I really dont think it matters that much and will not interfere. It is well outside the limits and one shouldnt even be going that way. Again for one thing- a fact which made me feel a lot better- UChicago has the 2nd biggest private police force in the world..
next to Vatican City.. so we shouldnt worry..

The weather was a littttle tit-bit too cold, but I found out that the quadrangles are internally connected, which was pretty neat. So during snow or bad weagther, one can get places within the campus w/out ever getting outside! and the buildings are insulated good.

All in all, Chicago is where I want to be, so bad, despite the cons it has. Is just feels like a community, a very different one.. I strongly strongly recommend a visit there!

Apart from the visit.. I went to:

Millineum park
The Second City (Pratt fall of the civilization) (I Strongly Strongly recommend it)
AMC
Broadway
Art Museum
German Fest
Giordanos (i think its a bunch of $hit, no joke)

and me and my cousin got kicked out of an Italian restaurant and almost got arrested =) .. I get in, i'm going there again!

simply amazing

this is a really funny post! i have a hunch you will get in...
how did you almost get arrested?!

I really don't consider the campus or the surroundings scary-- at all, and that's partially because I know where I'm going and the best ways to get there and partially because I'm used to the urban environment. Especially because of the recent Cisse tragedy, it's easy for visitors to think that campus is crime-ridden and unsafe, but I can promise you that the vast majority of students don't have any sort of problems whatsoever as long as they take a few preventative steps.

ha, well, first we got kicked out of an italian restaurant..

before the midnight show at the Second city.. we went to this italian place (derrotas, idk, cant remember) nearby, which was a fine fine place to dine.. It was me and my cousin, and since I'm 17, i couldnt drink despite me pleading w/ the bartender... so my cousin got some red wine and i got some pepsi.. and every round, he mixed in a part of his red wine in my pepsi and I did this like 3 tmies.. fourth time, the manager was right there! and he came over, smelled the glass.. and got ****ed since we did it like 3 times before.. and he told us to finish our darn food and get out before he gets in trouble.. so yea..

stupid manager i tell u.. coulda figured out there was something fishy by the red color of my pepsi..

and I almost got arrested bec/ me and my cousin were walking from AMC to broadway.. and it was chilly and icy.. right across from the millienium park, we were crossing the street and the cars were lined up.. my cousin slipped a little and hit the hood of a taxi.. and the guy rolled down his window and started yelling, honking, and cursing as we walked.. and the hood wasnt even dented.. finally my cousin smacked his forearm on the hood and yelled something to him which shocked me.. very racist thing to say, it was shocking to me! we just walked away.. nd i'm glad the light turned green..!

i wanna live in chciago haha, damn rad place

i actually loved the architecture of the surroundings too. the shotguns (i think thats what theyre called?) are all so rustic looking and it reminds me of the gilded age, i love the authentic brick exteriors and fire escapes and how it's so decrepit but i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that about them. it gives it a characteristic atmosphere, despite not being neo-gothic or anything.
