I completely agree that there princesses are often born, not made. The clothes/organization/drive is exhibited before they can even say “prada” and “shoe closet” and “straight As” but I swear she was the most observant and people person baby and these powers can be used for good or for evil…she knows exactly what her friends need and how to support them but she can also push someone’s button (mine usually) with astounding accuracy. How does a child of left-leaning, low-key practically hippies become a master of delegating/organizing/ordering–always the leader of projects/teams/groups? She is more like the child of marines!

How does a girl who subscribed, on her own, to fashion magazines by age 8 have a mother who thought (I am not joking) Kate Spade must be some kind of gardening guru?..I have never owned designer items or even makeup (any!)…I have a minor in marxist studies…my son is studying art and my husband is a sociologist…she talks about majoring pre-med but I think she is more likely to end up running a hospital (or an entire portfolio of hospitals)… I would be mystified but then I need to look no further than to my amazing mother-in-law who was widowed at 30 with 4 small boys, worked two jobs for 30 years but was always the best looking and best dressed woman in the room, assumed she would overcome cancer (twice!) and did and most importantly on her own raised 4 boys to be some really amazing husband material in a conservative catholic sexist country. She is inordinately proud and values and cares for her looks, her clothes, and her position in her community but she is also kind and giving to her friends and family. I hope my daughter turns out just like her.
