Hello,
What is the best major for an undergraduate student who is planning to become a trader ? I know that their are no programs that made you a successful trader, so I'm looking for the nearest one to the field that will prepare me for that kind of jobs.
And if there is any specific programs in a specific college, I would also like to know about it.
Thank you.

Why type of trading do you ultimately want to be doing (flow, marketing making, algo trading, prop trading, …)?
Which product(s) are you interested in trading?

The answer depends on the answer to these questions.

Probably Finance, Accounting, or maybe Mathematics.

So when exactly would a trader ever use accounting?
How is accounting related to trading?

Learning to read financial statements, calculate certain ratios, and learn how to tell how well a company is managing their costs.

So basically, what you’re saying is you have no idea what a trader does?
What exactly compelled you to post here?

I think everyone should have basic accounting concepts. A lot of traders have math based majors.

No, that’s not what I’m saying. I mean exactly what I said.

Go take a hike elf and take some happy pills or something.

But the thread was about traders and traders do not do any of the things you mentioned?
I’m not really sure how your comments are relevant to the thread.

If you want to work for a prop trading firm like Jane Street, DRW, Susquehanna, I’d recommend you brush up on probability and learn to think under time pressure. You’ll learn everything in a derivatives or fixed-income securities when you actually hit the floor, though some knowledge obviously wouldn’t hurt.

Not sure about other areas, haven’t had interviews.
