The role of SAT in Cornell Admission

In ED 2009, 2300+ rejects are as common as <2100 accepts

So, what role do you think the SAT score plays in Cornell admission?
Do you think solid ECs out-weigh low SAT scores?
How likely is it for an applicant to get in CoE with a 2000 (with "passionate" engineering ECs)?

The role of SAT depends on the school. For example, AAP doesn’t seem to care much about SATs.

I could be wrong about this, but I think Cornell only considers math and critical reading parts of the SAT.

I know CoE emphasizes SATs more than the other schools, but if you have an 800 in the math section and about a 600 in both the other sections, you still have a shot of getting in with a 2000. The breakdown matters too.

But keep in mind, SATs are not the only component used in admissions.

A glance at the [College Data Cornell Scattergrams](https://www.collegedata.com/cs/admissions/admissions_tracker_result.jhtml?schoolId=787&classYear=2013</a>) should be enough to disabuse you of any notion that SAT’s aren’t important at Cornell. Click off the Withdrawn, Applied, etc. boxes on the left. The average for rejections appears to be about 1990, and acceptances 2180.

Maybe, but Cornell’s [Scattergrams for SAT Writing](https://www.collegedata.com/cs/admissions/admissions_tracker_result.jhtml?schoolId=787&classYear=2013) demonstrate a slightly larger spread between reject and admit than for SAT Math. The spread between reject and admit for W is evidence that the score is having an independent effect on admissions, regardless of what Cornell says they consider or don’t.
