And whose parents would be willing to plop down 40 grand for a kid that doesn't want to go?

And you won't fit into Exeter... From what I gather you sound like a 9 year old and could be one.

An immature 9 year old at that... grow up and realize that this is a once in a lifetime chance you've been given.

I agree with FUN. Best post in a while.

I know some who would. Some who have. The world is large and strange...

I grant the OP may be a troll. However, the elite schools have good reason to attempt to discern an applicant's desire to attend boarding school, because there are parents who will apply undue pressure. This could be an example of why many interviews include a variant of the question, "why do you want to go to boarding school?" I do know parents who would force a child to attend BS "for their own good."

For the OP, if you're on the level, now is the time to talk with your parents, calmly (no tears, threats, or shouting.) Express your fears and concerns. It is natural to get cold feet, even if you were fully committed to attending BS. If you were able to convince admissions officers that you were enthusiastic about boarding school, you may have deceived your parents too.

I urge the posters replying to this post to err on the side of empathy. Just because it's your dream to leave home to attend a prestigious boarding school, does not mean that it's everyone's dream.

i know BS isn't for everyone, and everyone wont enjoy it, but honestly, anyone who comes on this board, can plainly see that we all would kill for a chance that the op has.And here they are spitting on it! I didn't mean to be unkind, i wanted to be firm. This kid just got my dearest wish, an opportunity of a lifetime. It seemed almost as of the op was mocking us, a bit.

that is if your not a troll.

OMG I just got into Harvard, I am soo going to shoot myself now ! WHY ARE YOU SO UNFAIR GOD !!! SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET REJECTED !! I SOO DO NOT WANT TO GO! WAAAA WAAAA!! Oh well now I suppose i'll just have to deal with it. Harvard sucks so much everyone is soo prissy here .... Anyone have any ideas of how i can get my acceptance recinded ?? Will peeing on John Harvard's foot work ? This sucks so much i wish i was like you lot and my application was in the rejected pile ! NOw I have to put up with the dumbasses at Harvard and ofcourse their infamous sub par education. :(

P.S. for all of you guys who got rejected how did you do it ? I would so love to be you right now. I am soo jealous !! Man why the hell did god make me a billionaire as well?? I soo wanted to be a starving kid in africa with hardly enough to eat ! I mean they do not even have to TRY tobe anorexic !

The awesome brattyness exhibited in the original poster seems a bit unreal.
I smell a troll.

DITTO. Not even particularly well done. Let's beef it up a little.

And I HATE having perfect skin! All my teeth line up, it's so BORING!!! It wouldn't be so bad but the rear view mirror in the brand new Mercedes Daddy just bought me is so BIG! I watch myself in it all the time so I should know. And I hate the color of the car - he KNEW I hated light silver and wanted the dark silver, but he bought it for me anyway! HE'S SO MEAN. I'm so depressed I don't even know if I can make it to my spa treatment today, with my luck my masseur won't even be there. UGGHHHH. I hate nerdy people! With their squinty eyes, and pocket protectors, and Elvis Costello glasses! MOOOOM!! We're out of Evian! Can't you do ANYTHING right?

HA good try but no one out does the prezzo. I did go to Harvard (albeit reluctantly) after all :P

I know kids who would kill for your spot.
Give me a call.
lol J/K
Some people on this board are b i t c h y e r then usual.....I think they are PMsing...

yeah. but you probably should have picked andover, instead.

Maybe she thought Andover was her worst fit. lol

loser (10 god damn characters)

I agree, the OP is most likely a troll. If you are, I'm sorry, you didn't do a very good job with it.

However, I would like to point out to all the people who posted angrily--very likely waht the OP wanted btw--that, were this story actually true, they would have no right to react this way. Yes, it is a priviledge for some to attend Exeter. But if you have no desire to go to boarding school, if you would be homesick and miserable and truly do not fit there, if your parents are forcing you from home against your will, I see no reason to feel grateful. Exeter is a great opportunity--for a very small sliver of the population, that would thrive there. For everyone else, it is an hypercompetitive, intense, extremely stressful environment far from home that may offer little to none of what they want from a high school experience. Under what circumstances should that be considered a priviledge?
Also, for the record, many kids--smart, high achieving kids; Exeter grads, even--would HATE Harvard. It is a cuttthroat, very difficult environment, with very impersonal classes most taught by grad students for the first two years. It has one of the highest rates for student suicide of any college in the country. I know many, many kids at Andover who, if offered a free pass to get in, would not take it.
For the sake of anyone on the board who doesn't know me, I attend Andover (as a Lower) and am extremely happy there.
Again, I would like to reinforce that I severely doubt the story is true. Sorry, OP, if it is.

For all of you clever people out there, yes, i am a TROLL (omg, who could have guessed, right?)

But this post was about more than having some fun.

All you people absolutely obsessed with getting in to the best possible school, Take this as a reality check, believe it or not there are people out there who are not desperate to get into A/E gasp,
There are people in this world who do EC's for FUN?!?!?! (fun? whats that??), NOT to impress adcoms, again gasp

Many people out there dream of graduating in the top 50% of their public high schools, some dream of graduating and going to community college. If you got rejected from your top choice your aloud to be unhappy, but once you get to a certain point, GET OVER YOURSELF.

Getting into only Deerfield and Choate or only MIT not Harvard or Princeton, believe it or not, does not make you a failure in life. Take what you can get because in the end your college doesn't determine your place in life, no kidding your high school!

Take advantage of your childhood while you can because once you graduate from college there's this thing called work that hits you and now you don't even have summers off.

If you dont understand this now it will hit you later in life and by then it will be way too late.

I wanted to make this point but i needed to make this thread to reinforce what im talking about, to make it short GET OVER YOURSELVES.

Thank you very much prettyckitty for reinforcing my point and i look forward to seeing you at andover :)
