The schools of Rice University

I was curious to know if it is easier to get into certain schools compared to other schools at Rice. I imagine that the Brown Engineering School is quite difficult and Shepard is stellar.

But what about Humanities and Social Sciences? they dont have quite the same 'prestige', but are they still about as difficult to get into? For example, I applied to School of Social Sciences. If I had the exact same stats as somone who applied to, lets say Brown Engineering, would my odds be better because of the level of difficulty and number of applicants?

thanks folks

very hard to say. ive heard that humanities is actually the hardest to get into based only on acceptance rate because it is a much smaller school, and proportionally they get more applicants than all the others. but this still says little because it is a different body if applicants than a body that includes potential engineers. overall though i dont think it changes too much. even music students have to be admitted by rice first.

I thought that it was pretty easy to change majors between schools if you're not in architecture. I applied as a biochem major but I want to change it to bio engineering ... will that be a problem?

i don't think the school you select on the application is binding if you're admitted

it isnt. i know that. i think they do frown upon switching schools, however

Don't worry! switching schools (except into music or architecture) is literally a non-issue. I know, since I switched from natural sciences to social sciences. Really, it's NOT A BIG DEAL. At all.

yea especially if you are going from biochem to bioengeneering...it is just as difficult. u are qualified for that shcool.

You don't get admitted to schools; you get admitted to Rice. They know that you are probably going to change majors! (This doesn't apply to archis and music students... )

AFAIK you do get admitted to schools, its just that like above its not binding, but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist.
