The social life REALLY SUCKS?

AcceptedAlready, would it be possible for you to get somenone doing computer science at CMU to post here? that would give us a clearer picture and it is always nice to have more than 2-3 opinions.

Why not check Walden's thread? I think ECE is close enough to SCS. If you want you can do the online chat thing or call the office for a current student to call you.

where is Walden's thread?

hey acceptedalready, plz reply to my previous question, what is walden's thread?

It is entitled "ECE student taking q's".

b u m p ............

bumped just to keep this thread alive, or did you have a burning question??

just to keep it alive.

ah, i see... well, we should talk about something:

in general what do you like so much about CMU?
or
how did you hear about CMU

I have a question about CMU:
Okay, I know there's partying, drinking, frats, sororities, whatever.
But overall, are there a LOT of students who DON'T get involved with that stuff, compared to most other schools (where like 80-90% of the people drink)?

Because I got really excited because I thought CMU had like 50% of its students like me (don't dance, drink, party, whatever.. just like to hang out, go to the mall, movies, shopping, whatever)... but now I'm starting to think that was just another silly idea of mine.. and I'm not so excited anymore, lol.

I guess I'm the opposite of those kids who are like OMG IS THERE GOING TO BE NO PARTYING?!?! and want to know if there are a good amount of people who don't drink and party.
*not if there are, period (because obviously there are), but if there are a lot. like 30-40% being a good amount.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm just like you.

I am going to turn away from the drinking scene. I really do just like to chill and hangout. For me drinking and partying are a waste of time, and for me it isn't fun at all. I do like to dance but that's besides the point. Well at least here is one other person who shares your veiws so don't worry. Wait I don't like to go to the mall nevermind.

If you read the rest of the thread, I highlighted percentages and even on the best floors they were around 50/50. I think the school overall has a majority which do not drink/party.

Well, I read
"In other houses, perhaps 50/50 go out?"
but you didn't sound too sure.
I just wanted confirmation.

Thanks! That makes me happy.
Whenever I tell people that, they're like..
are you kidding me? No way. That's weird as hell.

Yea, don't worry you'll be fine.

I do recommend you check out the frat parties and stuff during orientation (you don't have to drink) just to meet friends and whatnot.

i dont party...lol...you probably know that already..but i do like to dance..cant say im good at it...but like if im at a dance..ill dance...but not like at drinking parties

and AA, i really hope ill be able to make friends without going to frat parties...because unless i do some serious changing between now and august...its just not going to happen...lol

ah, yes... me too, morgan and SISIS... it'll all work out...

no social life i hear

I'd like to go ahead and bump this.

Many people "hear" that CMU is full of nerds who do nothing but study. This can't be further from the truth. It's true, most people at CMU are smart in their own unique way - but only a minority stay cloistered in their rooms reading their textbooks.

Parties can be found any day of the week if you try hard enough. They happen, regardless of what anyone else says.

If you don't want to party, that's fine. There are literally hundreds of groups on campus who are dedicated to having fun without alcohol.

There's so much going on at CMU that it's hard to balance the fun with the work. Sometimes we combine the fun WITH the work (see: Carnival).

If there are any specific questions, let me know.
