if they can afford a private/boarding school, they can afford a private college. "no need for UC's"

most kids at my HS go to Mary Washington, James Madison, Radford, Virginia Tech etc... at the top we sent like 40/350 kids to top 30 schools probably, and a few more if you count the military academies.

Top UCs are po'r man's Ivies that is why it's so popular.

Local community college

University of Minnesota

Other Minnesota and Wisconsin state schools like River Falls, Winona, St. Cloud...ya know, one's none of you have ever heard of.. lol

I live in a suburb of St. Paul, by the way.

I'm one of few that's leaving the Midwest

Most of the kids at my school who go to selective colleges go to LACs. It probably comes from growing up in a LAC town. With the exception of the local CC, more kids go to Lafayette than any other school. Most of the top students at least apply to Cornell, although they don't all end up attending.

Most of the kids from my school go to state schools, some to community colleges, and a few go out of state. Among the very selective schools ppl. this year are going include Penn, Northwestern, Brown, Duke, Cornell, NYU, etc. Several ppl. are going to the University of Florida.

yaaa.....i'm pretty bored......lol

wow, i wish i knew where everyone in my class was going... unfortunately they dont allow students to see the list. My class is pretty unimpressive. about 280 graduates at non-elite catholic school in san francisco.

Northwestern-1 (me)
Georgetown - 1
Rice - 1
Boston U. - 1
USC - 1

than there are a few going away to obscure places like
Miami-1
Villanova - 1
Worcester Poly. - 1
Hawaii Manoa - 2
Seton Hall - 1
Allegheny - 1

Than about 12 to berkeley, 6 to UCLA, 4 to UCSD, 3 to merced, 5 to UCSB, 7 to UCI, 2 to UCR, 15 to SF State, 12 to San Jose State, 5 to Cal Poly SLO... the 12 to berkeley and 6 to UCLA is where my low perception of the UCs comes from, most of those people would have a hard time getting into any top 30 private U. (and as you can tell from the list, tehy didnt get in)

sadly, when i started at my HS, they sent about 4 or 5 grads to ivies each year before i came, and about 20 others to places like Duke, Stanford, Chicago, Rice, and so on... then they started dismantling the scholar program, so it fell down to 1 or maybe 2. This year, i guess the expectation was on me to fit the bill, but even for an ivy id be a fool to turn down Medill school of Journalism, so we have none.

What this really showed me was that what makes a HS great is not the quality of it per se, but really teh quality of the students it attracts. Your high school is really only as good as you are. take pride in that.

TheCity- Which high school?

Yeah, I had a graduating class of 14, half os which went to community college (or no college) and the other half went to U of M or Michigan State. On guy actually went to UC Berkeley. We were afraid to go near him for awhile, as though he might burn us with his audacity and greatness.

Community College - 109
University of Central Florida - 48 (1 Nat'l Merit Scholar)
University of Florida - 26 (1 Nat'l Merit Scholar, 3 4.0ers)
Florida State - 25
University of South Florida - 18 (2 4.0ers)
University of North Florida - 10
Florida Institute of Technology - 7
Stetson - 4
Florida Atlantic - 3
University of Miami - 3 (1 4.0er)
Full Sail - 3
Keiser College - 2
Florida Medical - 2
Florida Southern - 2
Palm Beach Atlantic - 2

(Bright futures sure does keep 'em reined in)

Out of State - 31. Of these 31, I would say that only 5 are going to a 'prestigious school':
...2 to Vanderbilt (1 4.0er AND Nat'l Merit Scholar)
...1 to NYU
...1 to Tulane (4.0er AND Nat'l Merit Scholar)
...1 to Boston College

Into the Military - 14

Which puts the percentage of my class getting any sort of post-secondary education at 64%, while the percentage going to a four year institution is 40%. We're a highly accomplished group.../not

Hmm...This is kinda fun.

TINY School in Missouri-

25%-Local 2 Year Tech. School

5%-State School

5%-Tiny religious Schools

5%-Community College located in the High School

1 Person- Air force

The Remaining 60%- La-Z-Boy U.

Each class at my school has roughly 400-600 students, and is definitely not a college prep/competitive school. Most people end up going to Harvard on the Hill. It breaks down roughly to:

45% Community College
40% OSU, U of O, Western/Southern/Eastern Oregon
5% Schools in Washington: UW, Western Washington, etc.
5% BYU
5% Out of state, prestigous schools.

Of the "prestigous" schools people were accepted to this year, there were two Bard, one CMC, one Pomona (who also was accepted to CMC, Tulane, Union, and U Rochester), one Boston U., one UPS, and one Macalester.

Meh..this year at my school:

Top 5 destinations:
Penn State (39)
Harrisburg Area Community College (24)
University of Pittsburgh (9)
Temple (8)
University of Delaware (7)

Others:
University of Pennsylvania (2)
Johns Hopkins (2)
New York University (2)
University of Maryland (2)
Coast Guard Academy (1)
Naval Academy (1)
Cornell (1)
Emory (1)
Georgetown (1)
Notre Dame (1)
Brandeis (1)
Amherst (1)
Tufts (1)
William & Mary (1)
University of Michigan (1)
University of Virginia (1)

Apart from the top 5, we really don't have many "popular" destinations. :

I go to one of the most competitive public school in the richmond area. Usually a pretty large group (about 25 or so each) gets into Virginia Tech, UVA, and JMU. About 7 got into William & Mary. About 50 get into VCU every year. We've got 490 kids in our grade.

Last year, about 50 students went to community colleges and about 30 went to SUNYs. Less than 10 went to prestigious schools. That's pretty much all I remember. I can't recall where everyone else went.

Heh, my school sends a "pretty large group" to UVA every year too...and by pretty large I mean 150+.

I'm from Pittsburgh

1 was IUP

2 was Penn State

3 was Pitt

4 was Duquesne

The rest were pretty much divided up. I was the only one at Mount Union from my class. I'll be one of two at La Roche in Fall 2006. Not sure how many are at Community College, but it will really just be temporary for me as I wait to transfer in the fall.

basically everyone either goes to middle tennessee state or the local cc. I'm known as the guy who is going to california. or sometimes just as the guy who is leaving.
