The Truth About Hedrick Summit

Hello future accepted students who are placed into Hedrick Summit for housing. I’m going to give you a little information about Hedrick Summit because when I was placed here, I could only find negative information about it and it was so outdated and wrong. So here it is:

Hedrick Summit is not the worst of the dorms.

  1. Yes, it is the furthest from campus (minus the Hitch Suites, but that's just a crosswalk away, really), but you do learn to adapt to the time it takes to walk to campus like everyone else living on the hill.
  2. You don't have to walk up the hill to get to Summit. There are stairs and a pathway that go directly to Summit, so you can stop and get something to eat on your way to your room. The stairs actually save time.
  3. The air conditioning and private bathrooms are a blessing. They just are. When it's 90 degrees outside and you're all sweaty from walking up the hill (because there is no avoiding sweating), your room can be sixty degrees when you walk in. Think about those classic hall dorms. They can never escape that heat because they don't have AC.
  4. Hedrick Summit is NOT "anti-social". It's just as rowdy as any other hall. (My floor is actually kind of loud). I think people say it's less social because no one has to leave their room to shower or use the restroom. (But the private restrooms are so nice and convenient.)
  5. Sharing a bathroom with another room is not chaotic. Rarely is anyone in the bathroom at the same time. There is no battle in the morning for the shower or the toilet because everyone has a different schedule. You might have class at 9 am and your roommate might have class at 12 pm, so you will be gone before they wake up.
  6. If you get a suite in Summit, you have your own room and a mini common room. I think those are nice. Don't freak out.
  7. Your bathroom is cleaned once a week.
  8. The room is bigger than your average classic hall dorm, and that space is beautiful.

That is all I can think of. It’s really great. This is luxury. I literally see no downsides to Hedrick Summit after being here for a while.

Best of luck to all of you.

I know I posted this in November, which is Fall Quarter, but Winter Quarter is almost over and it’s still the same. Next year I’m moving into another plaza because they are really convenient.

It depends on your floor. My floor is horrible and Summit is so far. But, it’s good if you can a fun floor. Everyone studies on my floor. They complain about every noise, even coughing and blow dryers!!!

I can testify this! I lived in a suite at Hedrick Summit over the summer. The hallways are kinda narrow, so there’s definitely activities going on in the building. The walk isn’t that bad, and the Hedrick dining hall has amazing food

The closest food is Rendezvous and it’s literally just a staircase away, but for the 2016-2017 year Hedrick Hall is getting a new to-go eating place (I think it’s mainly pastries and coffee stuff?) which will be even CLOSER (as in in the building right next to Summit!)

Is Hendrick the only one with private bathrooms? Cause I got one with a private bath, but I don’t know which hall yet…

@Merppity Hedrick Summit, Rieber Terrace, Rieber Vista, and some places in De Neve have private bathrooms. Plazas are the ones with private bathrooms and anything that says hall has communal bathrooms. The housing website has descriptions of your building.

@berryjam Oh, is it up now? Thanks then. There was no building listed when I last checked a while ago.
