the typical student at emory?

ive heard some not-so-great things about the emory students. hopefully they're not true. could a current or past student please describe the student body?? i really dont want to go to school with a bunch of stuck-up juicy couture wearing girls and that's what i hear is the norm.

I’m sure you can find stuff on this through the search function.

Every elite school has a high proportion of extremely wealthy students.

I suggest you visit, if you can. My daughter graduated from Emory a year ago and my son is a freshman. We are just regular folks and both love Emory and found great groups of friends. My kids have for spending money what they earn in the summer. They don’t have our credit cards. There will always be people with more and those with less. That is part of life but I think you would find any type of student you want for a peer group at Emory.

I would caution you against searching for a “typical” Emory student, generally speaking. Emory is a very diverse environment and you’ll find students from a variety of walks of life. The MOST underrepresented group are probably non-traditional students. Very few students are outside of the traditional 18-22 college demographic. Aside from that, you’ll find many different students from many different backgrounds.

I would say that, overall, there is a fair amount of wealth at Emory, but this is characteristic of any good school because of the social correlations that lead to these kinds of institutions. The best students, for better or for worse, often come from well funded high schools in well funded districts, or private (expensive) high schools. That being said, I don’t find our students to be “stuck up”–though I would be lying if I said that I haven’t heard that as a complaint tossed around. In my experience, the people who complain about the students are socially awkward in a way that they likely would not have found a lot of social luck wherever they went. They also, in my opinion, tend to have less pleasant personalities than the people they are judging.

Nothing screams “insecurity complex” like people who think rich people are stuck-up.

Wanted to throw that out there, too.

^^ totally agree !
