I just got a reply from UCSD for my appeal. I tried to add a good 200 points towards acceptance through new information in my appeal, but they said “I regret to inform you that we cannot approve your appeal because your score is 7214.”

I wasn’t looking forward to it at all so my second rejection wasn’t that bad =P. I didn’t feel I had the compelling info to change my admissions (i.e. wrong SAT scores, GPA, income info, and ELC).

I hope everyone hears from UCSD soon! Good luck to everyone.

BTW, a letter came in the mail, they didn’t post it up.

This site should explain : http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev3/info/comreview.html
UCSD uses this points system to rather objectively admit or reject you. And the cut off for this year was 7421. I dont really appreciate their admissions process b/c it leaves no real room for interpretation, and it seems as if your Personal Statement is not even taken into account unless they are deciding between you and someone else with similar statistics. But Alas, i was admitted so i should stop complaining.

I sent my appeal on April 11, and it reached admissions by April 12 or 13. I received a response in the mail today, April 22.

I personally like the admissions process since it is objective. There are definitely problems with it, some I personally hate. Anyway, good luck with your appeals everyone.

jas0n , i agree with you to some extent. In todays world of crapshoot admissions, its actually quite comforting to know for at least one school what your definate chances are. Though, its still got some crapshoot qualities, ie- the cutoff changes from year to year, categories such as personal characteristics are determinend by adcoms and their interpretation of what you listed is subjective.
