The Ultimate Supply List for Boarding School

lol, I guess so!

On our revisit day I think we'll take a better look in the dorm - closets vs. drawers, etc. My son will have to wear a blazer/tie every day so most of his clothes will be the closet kind, but it will be good to know how much space he has to work with. I think we'll bring the clothes down on hangers which I think someone sugested at some point (not sure if it was on this thread or not) if you are driving.

I wish I could go to revisit days :/

you can have a frig at exeter with doc note and many do

tanyoosha, I bought my daughter a pair of cute North Face boots. They are down-filled nylon with fur trim. Hers are dark brown and match her North Face jacket. They come in black as well. She is very "anti-UGG" and was thrilled when I found these for her.
arling...my son will not wear boots. I sent his old LL Bean boots and he did wear them once or twice to go sledding, but just wore his sneakers to class.

thanks keylyme! :)

Insurance - The tuition doesn't include student insurance, it's around US$1,200 year. Can my S just keep in our family insurance or he has to keep both ?

Health insurance? Most schools will accept your health insurance. You need to make sure that your coverage will work for your child at boarding school.

regarding the snow boots, alot of kids wear the "bean boots" by LL Bean. i dont wear my uggs when its really slushy and gross outside, i always wear my bean boots..theyre great

Do you mean boots like thsoe?

uh, those are not cute

these boots:

Bean Boots by L.L.Bean®, 8" Thinsulate: Bean Boots at L.L.Bean

and i didn't think they were cute either, my mom wears them, until i got to school and so many people wore them

Everyone in New England wears those kinds of boots.

They're... okay. I'm thinking of getting just regular rubber boots for the rain and i don't know what to get for the snow...

btw keylyme, do you have a link for North Face boots? I couldn't find them online.

Here's a couple of stores that carry North Face boots. Zappos has free shipping and excellent customer service.

tanyoosha, I purchased my daughter's boots at Eastern Mountains Sports. They are no longer showing on the website; their stock of winter items is low. You can try googling them....the style of the boot is "Nuptse" by the North Face. The North Face site does not have them right now, but I did see them on Pricegrabber.com, so hopefully you can find your size in stock.

oooh! They are cute! Thanks! I'm actually getting them for next year! :)

I love those shoes! Definitely a nice proposition to my parents.

Just some more input on the boots thing (I'm a new england lifer/current NH resident). For the most part kids around here wear ugg boots for girls and worker boots for boys ("***** kickers as they're called). That is, for the ones who wear boots. Also girls often wear regular rubber boots but with fun patterns on them (available at most Targets). More often than not though kids just wear sneakers and have a pair of boots they only wear when they go sledding or something. (mind you this is from a public schooler, so things could be very different. Just thought I'd offer up what I know). Also, as far as coats go, most kids own one ski type jacket (really warm, waterproof, etc.) and one 'fall jacket' that's warm, usually courdoroy or something similar.

(ps-hi, I usually lurk on this particular section of the forums. I'm not going to prep school (no WAY my parents would ever let me) but I am spending the summer at a pretty well known prep school's summer program so I just come here to see if there's anything I can learn/be WICKED jealous of all of you going to boarding school!)

omg, when i went for my interview at this one school, i saw at least a dozen girls wearing patterned rain boots!
