@nowness congrats but i’m sorry you have to live in new mexico
@jasonzhu Last week
@c777123 I just received my acceptance to UT Architecture. I am instate and applied in mid-November.
@russiaguy congrats! I’m out of state and applied later, so I don’t expect mine to come just yet. Would you mind posting some quick stats?

A girl from my school heard back last week for Biomedical Engineering, she had better stats than me but not by a large margin but I applied way before her (2 month difference), does this mean I’m already CAPPED if I hadn’t heard back? Obviously the admissions officer had to have shuffled through my application before hers
@DoctorBojangles I wouldn’t read too much into the girl from your school hearing back before you. I
@DoctorBojangles I kind of doubt there are a stack of papers they are shuffling through. Maybe. Do you understand the AI/PAI? If not, scroll through this thread and read about it. Date of application is not very relevant at UT. For Engineering, your SAT writing score is more important than the reading for example so it is hard to compare your stats without knowing components of the total score.
Sometime in December I posted a link to one of the documents submitted in the Fisher case. It shows how they draw a line on the AI/PAI grid to decide who gets their major and who doesn’t. In this case, your friend may be in a higher box in that grid. That does not mean you won’t get in your major just that you won’t hear until they decide to release information for your group.
Their Twitter feed says they have thousands of acceptances to release between now and March 1.
Still have not gotten back decision. Even though ut Austin hasn’t asked for mid year report should I send it to them or just wait?
I sent them an email and asked if sending mid year grades would help because my GPA and rank went up, but they said they don’t consider them. They said they consider the transcript that was sent to them before the admissions deadline.
@gettingschooled I am aware of the AI/PAI index, I calculated mine a few months ago and it came out to something like a 3.44 with the optional 0.1 included for surpassing UT’s academic credit requirements, my rank is something like 10.7% or very close to that, ACT score of 32 (34M, 32R, 33S, 26E/W) and 11 AP’s classes taken at a very competitive Houston area highschool. I hope that is enough for Biomed. I know Business is just as competitive as Engineering, but quite a few kids who had worse stats than me have already been accepted to Business so not sure if that’s indicative of anything to come or not.
It is hard to know. To me “stats” are the AI. That is easier to measure although as you know calculating it doesn’t tell you what everyone else has so it doesn’t get you far. The PAI is what I think is so hard to guess and compare. It is often hard to tell what hooks others have that you don’t or the quality of essays.
With 11 APs, CAP is not a great option for you - although a lot of engineers take the science classes over in college, so maybe you can still make it work. With your stats, I would go to A&M rather than do CAP.
Then there is always PACE…
Hang in there. Waiting is hard.
@gettingschooled I really don’t like how they look at the writing portion of the ACT, easily my weakest section by far
College: Architecture- Accepted
Stats:
SAT: 1870
SAT IIs: NA
GPA: 4.3 (weighted)
Rank: 12 of 240
Other stats:
Subjective:
Essays: Really good Essay D, based on architectural history paralleling Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs
Teacher Recs: Pretty Generic, teachers wrote simple ones.
Counselor Rec: NA
Hook (if any): Hispanic National Merit Scholar
Location/Person:
State or Country: TX
School Type: 4A Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic/White
Gender: M
Other Factors: I think the biggest factors to my admission is my Essay D, having college credit for a summer architecture course, and having 7 fine arts credits while maintaining GPA. I was worried because my SAT scores are on the low end.
General Comments: The Architecture School will consider passion and determination just as much as intelligence.
I know this is all decisions but I want to ask a quick question.
Im an OOS student with competitive scores and GPA but still have not heard back from UT. Im from Pittsburgh, PA and visited this fall and fell in love with this school. It is the last one im waiting for and ive already been accepted to my schools , university of maryland, penn state, ohio state, pitt, and purdue. I want to decide between maryland and texas because I got invited to enroll in freshman research program at UMD but I dont want to wait on housing there because its a very bad lottery system. Is there sitll a decent chance I get in here if I wait or should I just accept UMD?
(Im a chemical engineering applicant)
I don’t think anyone can answer that with any accuracy. There are thousands of decisions left to release and engineering seemed to come mostly at the end last year. OOS is very difficult at UT. Your SATs are on the low side for OOS but you may have some other qualities they are looking for. Can you put a housing deposit down at UMD without accepting your offer?
Accepted into the School of Architecture! (Out-of-State Applicant)
Stats:
SAT: 1860
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.79 (weighted), 3.58 (unweighted)
Rank: School does not have a ranking system.
Subjective:
Essays: Topic C, of course. Topic D. I wrote a pretty lengthy, but solid essay.
Teacher Recs: Didn’t submit any
Counselor Rec: Maybe I sent one?
Location/Person:
State or Country: CA
School Type: Private - Catholic
Ethnicity: Asian/Black (Caribbean)/Hispanic/White
Gender: Male
Other Factors: I had a ton of varied extracurriculars that included some leadership positions–pretty sure I maxed out on the number you could put down for the application. I also did a number of summer programs and had one internship. I spent a lot of time developing my personal essays sharing my passion for architecture and why I want to pursue it. I really feel that my essays may have had a lot of impact towards my overall application since my grades and test scores were kind of average. Also, I put Architecture as my first-choice major and architecture, to me, tends to be less selective than say a STEM major such as engineering, or medicine.
General Comments: Hope this helps anyone who’s curious.
College: Architecture- Accepted
Stats:
SAT: 2110
SAT IIs: I don’t believe I submitted mine
GPA: 4.0 (unweighed)
Rank: top 8.5 % (literally 4 places from auto admit)
Other stats:
Subjective:
Essays: Topic D about an architectural project I did in Dallas last year
Teacher Recs: from my architectural design teacher
Counselor Rec: pretty generic
Hook (if any): 3 arch. classes in high school
Location/Person:
State or Country: TX
School Type: 6A Public (in Austin)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: M
Other Factors: I believe my 3 classes in hs helped a lot, but overall, I put a ton of effort into my essays (a tip I learned from a former UTSOA student)
General Comments: Absolutely thrilled, and relieved b/c I was worried that I was not an auto-admit! Also, work hard on the topic D essay!
I guess I wasn’t on this architecture wave… Hopefully mine comes soon
@plexaterson Last year Chem E majors were among the last to hear. Sorry…
Can you accept your admission at UMD now to increase your chances with their housing lottery? At some universities, choosing NOT to attend will allow you to get your enrollment and housing deposits back. So if you do get accepted to UT, perhaps you can decline at UMD then and (possibly) get your deposits back.
