@bogeom I did.
I got the scholarship email too, does it mean anything or does everyone recieve it?
My son is non auto admit, still waiting on Cockrell Mechanical and received the email. I’ll ask my niece who is an auto admit and just received her admissions to Cockrell Chem E last week, if she received it.
Curious about the email. Was it for UT in general or a specific college?
I wonder if it was based on your original application?
Ours was the Texas Ex’s scholarship, which closes Feb. 15. It looked like a generic email just notifying applicants that the deadline has not passed but is coming soon.
S got that even though he submitted it in the fall. Has not received admissions decision yet, OOS.
My school is one of the premier public schools (OOS). On an average, a large contingent goes to ivies, UIUC, USC, Stanford, Chicago etc. For UT about 100 students apply each year and in the last 5 yrs, only one, I mean one, gets the admission offer. That’s a 1% acceptance rate for my school. Most of us got the alumni e-mail. I am guessing that it means next to nothing for admission chances!
@benkenobi From what I can tell, Texas A&M and UT Austin look at class rank over everything else. So even if your school is “premier”, only so many students can be in the top 10%. I am saying this because my daughter did not have stellar test scores (with exception of SAT Math) but was in the early waves notified at both schools. I am guessing it was because she was #3 in her class. I think both schools looked upon her favorably because although her test scores were not top-notch, she proved she could compete against other students. And many of her classmates go to the Ivies too and we are also OOS.
@benkenobi - I have gotten admission to UT Austin. There are 3 others from my school who have gotten admission as well. My school is in top 500 but I wouldn’t consider anything exceptional.
@shivaya when did you find out? Today?
@JTUni20 - quite some time (more than a month) ago.
I am debating between UNC Chapel Hill and UT Austin.
Has anyone heard back from the school of social work yet?
anything from Liberal Arts yet?
@username828 yes, majors from Liberal Arts have started coming out in January, not sure if I remember any in December or not.
My DS was accepted to Liberal Arts in January and also LAH.
Anyone hear about chemistry may be?
I used to think that was true about rank and such for UT. However, my friend was accepted into BHP as well as Plan II and she is not ranked. Mind you that I live in an area where kids are taught how GPA works before they learn how to pronounce their own name (not literally), so whether or not someone is ranked is decided by how they do in the 3 High School Classes you can take as an 8th grader.
Hi @MountainGrl, order does most certainly not matter. Typically those who meet instate rank requirements hear first, however I’ve had friends who were under-qualified that heard back before anyone and friends extremely qualified who have yet to hear back. I would not be surprised if there is a randomizer >.<
Does anybody know when there might be another wave of decisions? Or if most decisions will be out by next week like last year?
@panther39 No. No one knows when any decisions will come out or if they will come out the third week, as last year. My guess is they will be out in the next 18 days. UT twitter says people will receive an email to check their status (when it changes-meaning they have a decision) but my son checks every morning and night anyway, even though there is no email notification, Just in case.
