The University of Texas Class of 2020 Decisions Thread

Not acceptance to UT (that was updated on the MyStatus Portal first), acceptance to the Honours Program.

Ah I see

Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy with school finals and other apps.
@nevergiveupp I tried to ask around for who else got accepted and but I hang out with a lot of auto admits and this round of admissions seems to be primarily non-auto but I do know one other person who got accepted into mech e non -auto. I then checked the Facebook group for class of 2020 but it seems everyone just joins that regardless.
@SirPepsi Ya it looks pretty similar with a trade off with grades for standardized testing
Anybody hear back from UT’s presidential scholars and know when they send out other merit based aid?

@K20903 @sarangooL Thanks for the info. My son’s test scores are not as high as sarangool’s. He is fine if not accepted into honors program but hopefully he will get accepted into the university itself.
His ACT (31) breakdown is:
English: 35
Math: 30
Science: 29
Reading: 29
Writing: 31

GPA: 3.97 UW (don’t know how to calculate his W GPA)
Class rank: top 5% of 879
11 APs
good ECs
Oos
Male/Asian
App completed by 10/8

Do you think he has a good chance for Austin? He is applying under civil engineering.
Thanks and Congrats those already getting accepted and good luck to those waiting to hear the good news!

@sunbeams based on your son’s scores and top 5% rank his Academic Index calculates to be 3.534. UT uses the AI as a prediction of first year GPA. In 2015 the GPA cutoff for current students at UT to transfer into Civil Engineering was 3.14. I do not know if there is any correlation at all between internal transfer GPA to freshman admission to Cockrell for Civil Engineering, especially since your son is OOS and has to compete against other OOS who applied.

Accepted- College of Liberal Arts

Stats:
SAT: 2230 700 W 770 CR 760 M
SAT IIs: 800 Math II 760 English Lit
GPA: 3.51
Rank: doesn’t rank
Other stats: National Merit Commended, 5 on APUSH

Subjective:
Essays: Worked really hard on them, probably 8/10
Teacher Recs: I think one was 10/10 and the other probably 8/10
Counselor Rec: She knows and likes me a lot but I’m not sure, maybe a 9/10?
Hook (if any): None really

Location/Person:
State or Country: Texas
School Type: Small suburban elite private school
Ethnicity: White
Gender: F

Other Factors: Super involved in a lot of leadership activities at a school and state level, very passionate about my major and I think that really showed through in my essays and my high school activities, major upward trend in grades even as I was taking the most difficult course loa possible, taking all APs senior year at a school where no one really does that

@txcheerstudent , when did you find out?

@txcheerstudent , when did you find out?

@rabihorn I got my letter about a week ago!

how would they calculate an AI if a school doesn’t rank? @k20903? My ACT is a 28. 27 math 28 Ela combo. I have a 3.87 average in a challenging course load.

Yeah, how could i estimate my AI/PAI?

If your school doesn’t rank, there is often an option to include only your GPA in the calculations. There are also some AI calculators that use the ACT instead of the SAT.

@jkenny50, @texangirl505 here is the link to the UT document that has the AI and PAI. It is on about page 34. https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/documents/institutions/best-practice-admissions-processes/ut-system-admissions-best-practices-2014-07.pdf
The AI formula is different depending on which college you are applying to and whether you took the ACT or the SAT.

thank you!

thanks!

@K20903 I think entering as a freshman and competing against in-state students require a higher stats probably. I heard it is usually easier to transfer from one college to another. I guess we can just hope they see something positive in my son’s app and offer him an admission.
Thanks!

Hey guys, I sent in my application about a week ago. My majors are physics and astronomy. Do you think I would have a relatively quick admission decision? I’m OOS.
Do you even think I stand a good chance of getting in?
ACT: 32
Writing: 36
GPA UW: 3.9
Decent ECs
Very good essays (proud of them!)
Amazing recommendation from AP Chem teacher
7/245 in my class

Thank you! I would loooooove to go to UT

@Elite112

Woah 36 on writing O.o

I think you stand a pretty good chance. I definitely believe you had very good essays with an ACT writing score like that.

@sarangooL
Thank you! That helps calm me down lol
I really hope you all get in! It looks like you all deserve it.

(also, I think the ACT Writing is 90% who grades your essay and when. The time before this one I got a 31 in writing and I felt it was x9000 better than the one I got 36 on.)

I have a 30 on the ACT and 3.93/4.00 GPA unweighted (Our school doesn’t do weighted…). Decent extracurricular activities including research at UT Southwestern and teaching BLS/CPR to students at my high school (Head of Energy and Environment in Student Council, Head of Student Voice in Student Council, scriptwriter for a major play and some films at school, a good amount of hospital/clinical volunteering, created a student support/counseling network called the KREW, Martial Arts Instructor for two years, and currently doing Tae Kwon Do) Rank: 5/44, so I’m considered top 15%. SAT II Bio E 710 and Math II 730. Amazing rec letters. Applied to the college of natural science as a Biology major. Is there hope? So many people around me are telling me that I don’t have a chance… A straightforward and truthful answer would be greatly appreciated.
