The Veggie Debate

"the fat and protein content in meat is more desireable than the high starch content in potatoes.''

first of all...the amount of protein 'absorbable protein' in meat is very low....
"The reason people die of malnutrition is not because there is a lack of food worldwide it is because farmers throw out much of their crop production in order to keep prices high. It all comes back to money."

ever been to africa...asia...i have lived there...dont tell me. the farmers dont even have enough to feed themselves let alone throw away....
they earn about 200$ a year....the cost of an ipod.

werent you even taught to debate properly...

"You are acting as if noone has seen the PETA pictures. Im sorry but thats how every activist group gains attention - putting the most emotionally engaging pictures up that support their cause.

Im not saying that this isnt a noble idea, im saying that it will never work."

thats a nice way of saying ' I LOST'

•Foods that are linked with a higher risk of cancer: meat, eggs, milk and milk products

•Food constituents that help protect against cancer: dietary fiber, beta carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E

•The foods in which these cancer-fighting nutrients are principally found: whole grains, pulses, fruits and dark green and yellow vegetables

Wow what a surprise another generalization. While meat, eggs, milk, and cheese certainly contribute to cancer - they wouldnt if eaten in moderation. The problem with Americans today is they simply eat too much of everything. That will definitely increase cancer if not taken in moderation. French Fries, potatoe chips, and chocolate are things that americans could probably replace with lean steak, fish, and vegetables and live much longer and healthier lives.

Its not necessarily the meats fault, its just people do not have enough variety in their diets and they simply eat too much.

the animals whose meat/milk u eat/drink....have so many diff. hormones injected in their body....unnatural stuff...which contributes to cancer.

which will explain why people in third world countries have lower cases of cancer..

That has nothing to even do with meat. Im not sure what the point of this argument is. American farmers are the ones that dispose of their crops instead of exporting extra crops to places like Africa. Asian industrial centers choose to produce manufactured goods over producing crops. Once again your argument is idealistic and doesnt take into account the reality of the western dominated world.

Im not arguing against vegans, im just saying that its unfair to bash everyone that eats meat, since it is a societal custom.

also also

if u have ever studied ecology...the concentration of pollutants increases with a rise in chain level....thus plants have the lowest conc. of pollutants....cows and animals have higher levels.

Well people can choose to buy hormone free and free roaming products for higher prices if they choose. Again eating some of even the most genetically altered meat will not do anything. It is the overconsumption which causes the problems.

I buy all free roaming and hormone free btw.

Yeah people in third world countries also die before the age of 20 and drink disgusting water and go to the bathroom in open ditches that feed into their drinking water.

yeah ill take a risk of cancer over what people in third world countries face.

Offer anyone in a third world country a genetically modified piece of steak where the animal was skinned alive and they would gladly eat it.

'western dominated world'

wrong again kiddo...china and india are the leading producers of foodgrains in the world...:)
asia dominates the world agricultural scenario...

what the above means is:
if 22,417 Kilos of potatoes/vegetables that can be grown on 1 hectare of land why waste that entire hectare to produce 185 Kilos of meat...which cant even sustain a single man for an year

that way poor countries save land....and plus they dont have to depend on 'their inconsiderate western neighbours'

Ill give you that, but that would mean you are arguing to kill humans since they are the number 1 cause of pollution in the world. I guarantee you your parents car causes more pollution than the average cow.

•Litres of water necessary to produce 1 kilo of meat: 20,861
•Amount of water used by the average meat-eater in America compared to the average

Many poor countries do not have an abundance of meat and are mostly subsistence anyway. The reason they raise livestock is because it is VERY valuable and they can sell it so they can buy other necessities to live on.

And the main problem with many african countries is the land is not farmable due to bad farming techniques and a lack of water, not because they raise livestock(which most cant afford anyway).

i see. u havent studied ecology.
cows dont coz pollution....they accumalte pollutants in their body....even the free roaming ones...how???

wellif u spray plants with pesticides...lets say they accumalate 10ppm of toxic stuff....now a cow which is a herbivore....accumaltes 1000ppm....and humans who eat beef...even more...thus increasing the risk of cancer...

First of all, refer to my previous posts, many third world countries do not even have an abundance of livestock, the rivers are polluted from human waste.

I really do not believe your last statement and I would like to see the source. Vegans still go to the bathroom just like meat eaters, they still drink water during the day.

And even if its true we are not talking about america, i believe we have moved on to third world countries. Americans have waste and management centers.

Yeah and therefore eating vegetables that are genetically modified and sprayed with pesticides would also increase cancer. That makes no sense, vegetables are just as much of a problem as meat is in that case. And the effects are minimal either way.

"I really do not believe your last statement and I would like to see the source. Vegans still go to the bathroom just like meat eaters, they still drink water during the day. "

hahaha

idiot :)...it isnt the times u go to bathroom that determines how much water u use....

it less water to grow wheat and veg stuff as opposed to growing corn ...feeding it to a cow. (apparently...lot of water is used for raising feed for animals and as drinking water for the animals....
so its the food u eat that determines the amount of water u use

Many east asian industrial powers have the same policies as american farmers. They regulate how much they produce to keep prices at a certain level. It is how they stay in business. This world isnt about subsistence agriculture anymore

"Yeah and therefore eating vegetables that are genetically modified and sprayed with pesticides would also increase cancer. That makes no sense, vegetables are just as much of a problem as meat is in that case. And the effects are minimal either way."

use logic....EVEN if u eat veggies sprayed with pesticides....it is much better than making the cows eat it first and then eating the cow....
THE BASIC RULE OF ECOLOGY SAYS THIS.

I USE FACTS AND LOGIC....NOT STUFF LIKE n"ew japan are just modern models of western industrial meccas"
