Anyone else in the waiting game for the Likely Letter? My son submitted his application (with the coach’s full support) Sunday and we are supposed to receive the LL soon after October 1. Counting the days!
My daughter is waiting for an official acceptance as well. Not an Ivy but a D1 school. She took her OV last weekend and her application has been in since August 8. Hoping it comes soon!
My daughter is also waiting for the likely letter. I cannot wait!
I hope to be in a similar position next year! I can imagine the stress/anticipation. Good luck to all of you!
He received a call today to let him know the likely letter to Princeton is on its way!!!
Fantastic! You must be over the moon!! Congratulations to your son.
Congratulations! Good luck to your son this year—training, competing, studying, and just enjoying the last year of HS.
Congrats! I still remebmer when my D/S received the call and how excited they were. Congrats again to you and your son!
Congratulations!!!
My D is submitting her application this week. She passed academic pre-read, had OV and early financial aid estimate was provided. The coach has said all along that he is fully supporting her application. I wasn’t worried that the LL wouldn’t come through after application. Am I being naive?
@GoodtoKnow You’re not being naive. With coach support and a positive pre-read admission is almost certain, assuming no major problem in the application. However, getting the likely letter is still a big relief for athletes and parents.
Goodtoknow, all that mirrored our experience, as politeperson said, it just feels good to have the LL!
I agree with the slightly anxious parents who are waiting for their son or daughter to get a likely letter – mostly because my daughter committed to Harvard on Monday as a rowing recruit and withdrew from another Ivy as a result. So I hope Harvard comes through. Anyone know if they did the academic pre-read before her official visit?
Laura, our experience with academic pre-reads was pretty transparent. The coaches collected my son’s transcript and test scores and submitted them for pre-read. Each spoke to him about the results and said either all was good, green light, or admissions suggested he add a different class to his senior schedule. When he went to the rising senior day at Harvard we met with the coach who discussed the academic read. This was just our experience and I am sure there are variations for others. We were rather paranoid and asked very specific questions at each step. The scariest step for my son was definitely letting the other schools know that he had committed elsewhere but it is the only way forward!
Thanks. We did not accompany our daughter to any of her official visits. The Harvard coach has had her transcript and SAT scores since late spring so I think the academic pre-read occurred before they invited her on the official visit. I guess I just wish the Coach had talked to us and not just my daughter about the process now so that we’re not just hearing it second hand. I realize this is elite anxiety
I doubt the coach would do an OV without doing pre-read first. And a coach is pretty unlikely to use her/his limited support on an athlete without doing the academic due diligence to be very confident of admission.
