**The Waitlisted-by-WashU-and-therefore-losing-all-hope-of-going-to-HYPS Club**

P.S. Ladies and gentlemen, WashU paid me to go visit them...and I was largely unimpressed. The campus is ok, but the students seemed fairly unmotivated and "dead" in a weird way. Seemed like a downer school, IMO.

:D

wait wut exactly does hyps mean?

Smiley 44, Harvard-Yale-Princeton-Stanford.

Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford

:)

but you can join the club even if you didn't apply to them!

I sense hookem is going through the stages of grief (rather quickly and in a random order) - first shock, then denial, then rationalization & anger!

(harvard/yale, etc.)

HYPS is an abreviation for Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford-basically this thread is for those who got waitlisted at WashU and now feel they have no chance of getting into even tougher schools like HYPS, UChicago, Northwestern, Duke, MIT, Georgetown, etc.

isn't washU located in like the ghetto? NVM it isn't. but let's face it, St. Louis is kinda boring.

someone told me washU accepts just-below-ivy-level applicants and way-above-ivy-level applicants. thus, the average-ivy-level applicants get the shaft from washU. But its cool cuz average-ivy-level applicants tend to get into ivy leagues + mit, UC, NU, Stanford, Duke, etc. so in my honest opinion: getting wait listed from washU has limited correlation to your chances with other schools

Thus from my humble observation, take a chill pill, flip washU the bird, and get ready for your acceptances from other schools (maybe stock up on champagne, etc.)

if you applied to other top notch schools (with the exception of HYPS), dont be completely discouraged!

according to us news, WUSTL has a lower acceptance % than A LOT of other top tier schools that are equally as good. I guess we wait and see.

It's not really in the ghetto, but I hated St. Louis when I visited.

haha palmalk, I think you're right.
I haven't reached "acceptance" yet, though...hehe

lol - acceptance will come in time! Patience grasshopper!

WashU IS NOT IN THE GHETTO! It's in a reeaaly nice, safe, upscale part of St. Louis. It's a while away before you hit the actual city of St. Louis which, although a fun city, can get sketchy every few blocks in every direction-the crime/bad areas in the city area are pretty scattered, but WUSTL is nowhere close to being in the downtown area. Trust me-safety is a huge factor in my college decision, and I felt 100% safe on the campus-it's very secluded, beautiful, and safe.

Palmalk, did you get that "patience grasshopper" thing from Gilmore Girls? lol

Don't lose hope people.

I got waitlisted at WashU but did get a likely from another Ivy (Dartmouth). It's not HPYS I know, but hey, it is a good school (and maybe a better school?). As has been stated, a lot of qualified applicants do get waitlisted. It's very possible you'll get into better schools, or at least schools that rank higher on your list.

My twin and I both wait listed, along with the val of my school who got a likely from Dartmouth so hey you never know with the ivys.

A far more archaic reference than that! (Kung Fu in the '70's!) Dating myself!

Waitlisted too..man..there are a lot waitlistees...

ha....now you guys have me viewing my acceptance as a bad thing...i think the college stress is finally getting to me lol

waitlisted! but was truly expecting a rejection so.. glad they let me down easy.

i feel bad for the dude who got rejected lol

WashU is notorious for waitlisting its top applicants that they think will go to other schools.
