Daughter is in her second week of her surgery rotation - so far so good. Tomorrow she’s on from 4:00 AM through 10 AM. the next day.

Daughter had her first quiz and said it went well. When it was done they all had presents waiting for them from their “big sib’s” of MS2’s, and every one of them included booze. Oh, and she got banana bread too. Wonder how that goes with Cabernet?

hahahahahah GAMOM, we’re doing lunch with our M1 little sibs tomorrow. Mine’s getting banana bread and… (not joking. What a funny coincidence!)

The MS2s must know it reduces the alcohol effect?

Obviously–that was the point of all those biochem lectures, right?

test #3 coming up on friday. cant wait for labor day weekend!

My birthday’s labor day–you’re welcome for the day off ;)

Number 3 already BRD? I think I remember, you went to the one that my D was accepted to as well, correct? If so, I’ll tell her you are on test 3 and she’ll feel better! :)

edit: And happy birthday Miss Kristin!

kristin–if you’re still jonesing for home grown tomatoes I’d be thrilled to send you whole box for your birthday.

(No kidding folks, I have 4 plants and I picked over 50 tomatoes on Sunday morning. Plus another 12 or 15 this morning. All to go with the 30+ I had sitting on the kitchen table. I cannot give them away fast enough… And I already have 16 QUARTS of homemade-from- fresh-tomatoes marinara in the freezer. )

BTW, it’s funny by D1’s birthday is this Thursday. (You’re both Christmas rush babies–or at least that’s what the OB nurse called it when I was admitted and they couldn’t find an empty labor room to put me in. I spent the first 3.5 hours walking around the hospital waiting for a bed.)

D. managed to get her sorority sister (from diff. UG though) for her M1 little sib. It was supposed to be a surprise, I have to ask how did it go.

yep GAMOM, test #3. its also the 4th week of school…

happy early bday kristen. I’ll make sure to party extra hard just for you

Took D1 out for her birthday dinner last night and she was telling funny story:

All first years had to keep a diary about their experiences during their rural medicine rotation. For credit, but not a grade. It was supposed to be completely private with only the proctor verifying it was done, but instead on the second day of school, all the new second years were sent to a lecture hall where they each were told to read one selection from their diary aloud to the rest of the class.

D1 said most were as dull as dirt. But my oldest has her dad’s extremely sarcastic sense of humor and knows how to tell a story. She read her story about dealing with the ER frequent flyer who turned out to have acute intermittent porphyria. Her tale was colorful and every third word was “crazy”, “crazy”, “crazy”, “f*****g crazy”. The proctor for the activity was a psychiatrist who kept making disapproving faces the whole time D1 was reading. And the whole time D1 was reading she’s thinking “Oh, now I’m going to get the ‘special email’ and get sent to the ‘special class’.” At the end, no one laughed or even smiled and no one made any comments. She finished and slunk off.

Well, yesterday, D1 got a ‘special email’—only asking her to submit her diary selection to the school’s literary magazine! (I’ll post a link when it’s published.)

Maybe I have a budding Samuel Shem on my hands.

^Sounds like I would have laughed! And then asked if she remembered garlic and silver bullets (it’s been postulated that vampires have AIP…).

Nobody laughed? That’s why DD refrained from making jokes in the psych ward though the material was all around her ;)

Mine is dreading psych.

We have a saying in Neurology: “Neurologists can practice as much psychiatry as they can stand”; I always try to explain to some of the cross-over patients(between neurology and psychiatry), ‘that we are the “hardware guys” and the psychiatrists are the ‘software guys’-and it appears you do not have a hardware problem :-)’

How are you , hubbellsdad? How about a report on your kiddo?

He is doing fine; now he has interns under him so one rung further up the ladder. He still has not figured out what to specialize in. On the social side-nurses are coming up to him and asking him out-something he has not gotten use to yet!

WayOutWestMom - I would have laughed. D did not enjoy her psych rotation, but the security guys were very protective of her and I appreciated that… She felt so sad for some of the patients and their loved ones.

Hubbellsdad - D said her guy friends have it made with all the date requests. D gets date requests from patients… and many of her ‘mom’ patients have a son or a nephew they want her to meet. She politely declines.

Kristen5792 - Happy Birthday! You are so very kind and generous. I hope you have a fabulous day.

WOWM, my daughter would not have been able to contain herself during your D’s presentation. :)

hubblesdad, shocker, nurses want to hit on/hook up/trap/marry a Dr? ;)
