Dang. I shoulda been a doctor. Well, except for all that book learning.

I’m just wondering if the girl with the “pretty” bra thought that was her hook?

Kristin!

Happy Birthday!

Have a great day!

:)

Thank you thank you! It’s been a great one! (The neon pink/zebra/sparkle pedicure was especially fun…)

Happy Birthday Kristin and Merry Labor Day to all!

Happy Birthday kristin. Did your mom have to listen to all those jokes about going through labor on Labor Day? For the longest time, that’s what I thought it commemorated.

WOWmom, send your tomoatoes here: Limabeans, Jack & the Beanstalk Way, Golden Egg, USA. I love home grown tomatoes< especially with real basil, fresh mozzarella, and a drizzle of Italian Dressing.

Was reading a comment from someone on sdn explaining why his gpa was so low, “terrible test taker,” and I wondered if he realized how much testing is in MS. Is there a big difference in amount of testing at different MSs?

Someone posted this on FB and I thought it might you guys a laugh. I especially enjoyed the last one.

these are funny - whether true or not doesn’t matter - they’re worth the chuckles…after all, laughter is the best medicine so keep laughing :-)

Subject: Hilarious medical exams

While acquainting myself with a new elderly patient,

I asked, ’ How long have you been bedridden? '

After a look of complete confusion she answered . . .

’ Why, not for about twenty years - when my husband was alive. '

I was performing rounds at the hospital one morning and while checking up on a man I asked . . . ’ So how’s your breakfast this morning? ’
‘It’s very good except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can’t seem to get used to the taste.’ . Bob replied…

I then asked to see the jelly and Bob produced

A foil packet labeled ’ KY Jelly. '

Detroit,

A nurse was on duty in the Emergency Room

when a young woman with purple hair styled

into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety

of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing,

entered … . . It was quickly determined that

the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was

scheduled for immediate surgery… When she was completely disrobed on
the operating

table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had

been dyed green and above it there was a

tattoo that read . . . ’ Keep off the grass. '

Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon

wrote a short note on the patient ’ s dressing,

which said ’ Sorry . . . had to mow the lawn. ’

AND FINALLY!! ! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . …

As a new, young MD doing his residency in OB.

I was quite embarrassed when performing female

pelvic exams… To cover my embarrassment

I had unconsciously formed a habit of whistling softly.

The middle-aged lady upon whom I was performing this exam suddenly burst
out laughing and further embarrassing me.

I looked up from my work and sheepishly said. . .

I’m sorry. Was I tickling you? '

She replied with tears running down

her cheeks from laughing so hard . . …

’ No doctor but the song you were whistling was . . .

’ I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Wiener … '

Dr. wouldn ’ t submit his name…

Was reading a comment from someone on sdn explaining why his gpa was so low, “terrible test taker,” and I wondered if he realized how much testing is in MS. Is there a big difference in amount of testing at different MSs?

I always wonder how students who are applying for UNDERGRAD and pre-med, and then say that they’re bad test takers, can expect to do well-enough on the MCAT to get accepted.

m2ck - how is the application process going?

Ah, but to do GI, she’d have to go through a primary care (IM) residency first! Therein lies the rub…

My D is a 4th year and just submitted her main residency application today. This is nerve-wracking, almost like applying to med school all over again! Personal statement, letters of recommendation, researching programs, interviews all over the country…and not being sure where you will end up for the next phase of your education. Stressful, but this time at least she knows she will be a dr.

she submitted it today?! i thought that 9/15 is the date for application submission. Am I mistaken?

probably ophthalmology im guessing

phew had me freaking out a bit. im still waiting for my LOR’s to be uploaded; although i know they don’t all have to be in at the time of the application, i’d rather have at least 2-3 uploaded.

wish i didn’t have to apply for prelim years, too! oh wells, GO NEURO!

hahaha 2-3 LORs by Sept 15 - I’ll be lucky to have 1, thanks to not being able to rotate in my chosen field until M4. Ah well, what can ya do? Just registered for NRMP, and slowly finishing ERAS.

How many programs are the rest of you M4s applying to?

O.K. D is a MS3 (for y’all playing the home version of our game ;)). First day surgery rotation was all orientation. First real day was today. The surgeon has her make the incision with a scalpel, insert the tube, insert something through the tube (I have no idea), and then suture the “wound”. The resident (intern? whatever) was stunned. “I can’t believe he made you do that Day 1.” Supposedly, this was “mean” treatment of a MS3 in the resident’s eyes. D was pumped. Loved it! lol Bring it on, you surgeon meanies. The hillbilly girl ain’t skeered. ;)

That is so awesome Curm!!

You must be so proud!! And she isn’t a hillbilly…she is a well educated and learned scholar and now a Yalie! Hillbilly my butt!

Is she still planning on taking the year for research? Son switched up his year for B school to between 3rd and 4th from between 2nd and 3rd…had something to do with who was doing the rotations he was looking at for 3rd year, guy will be gone so he is having to change his plan…he’s ok with it but b school tuition goes up alot more each year than the med school…

Kat

Yup. Next year will be her research year and writing her thesis. This year she has to zero in on what she is going to do. The pressure is on. Still thinking surgeon. Seems to be in the area of thoracic or ent but some others are still in the running.

Her school has grades in the clinical years and she is killing it so far. This rotation is a biggie. Long hours, start time before 5:00 am, should give her some idea of what is to come.

Curm- you mentioned family med being a bit, um, well, boring
DD did a rural family med over a prior summer, she had a blast, operating, delivering babies, it was fun. In MS3, the family med rotation was NOT rural and it was much more boring

I think it is all the surgical stuff that was fun. I will be interested to see what my DD feels about her surgical rotation.

curm - tell her to do family practice rotation in Texas. Connecticut does not produce enough babies for practice.

A guy from California who went to UT H was telling me a couple of years ago that he was delivering several babies a day while some of his friends in other places hardly saw a delivery.
