I am having a tough time choosing which UC to attend and I'm sure it is the same for many others. Basicly the title of the thread says it all and hopefully this thread will help people choose a UC.

It was between UCB and UCSD for me. I am a “good match” for UCB and I still sent my SIR to UCSD even though decisions for Berkeley haven’t came out yet. Here’s my reasons:

1) Cal is on a semester system versus UCSD’s quarter system and the only school better than UCSD in California are either Ivy Leagues or UCLA/Berkeley. I want to graduate in 2 years, not 3, and I knew taking 5 or 6 classes a semester at Berkeley is academic suicide. Not to mention, most of my classes are sequences so I wouldn’t be able to take 5 or 6 anyway and get the same done in the same amount of time.

2) I went to UCLA and didn’t like it so I didn’t even apply there. I just didn’t like the environment and I hate how hot SD gets during summer so I couldn’t imagine putting up with that in LA where it’s slightly hotter, but for more money.

3) UCSD is actually ranked higher for the undergraduate system in my major: Bioengineering. UCSD is ranked #4 in the country, behind only JHU, Georgia Tech and Duke.

4) People think I’m Asian anyway, so I won’t have to put up with the racial bias, yet because I’m actually Hispanic, I get some nice scholarships and grant advantages/incentives.

5) The only other colleges I applied to were Davis and Irvine, but I knew from the go that UCSD is where I wanted to go. I applied to Berkeley but it was more to see if they would accept me, not because I actually intended on going.

Ucsb, because I have friends there, because I like the coastal setting, and because I think having fun is important

uhmm…there are no ivy league schools in california…

@essenar: there are no ivy league schools in california.

edit: the person above me, wrote that in while i was typing mine in.

Nevermind.

EDIT: What I meant was, the better option is leaving to an Ivy league other than just going to UCSD, in terms of California’s options. As in, your options in California are : UCLA, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Cal Tech or leave to an Ivy.

Essenar. You got in my dream school with my dream major I also applied to Bio eng: Biotech at UCSD and it is my first choice. Probably I wont be accepted cause I have 3.64… Im still pending…

haha I hope you enjoy for me

you forgot Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, Scripps College, Pitzer College and Harvey Mudd College.

oh and for Bio, UCSD

Whoah, some people are already doing SIR’s? Scary.

I’m waiting till I have all admissions decisions

Why do people keep thinking Bioengineering is the same as Biology? Is it that hard to read after the first three letters? It’s not the first time I’ve seen that either.

Biology has probably 7% in common with Bioengineering, and that’s a generous 7%.

Bump!!! so i just sent in my SIR to UCLA… SOOO excited. ucla has been my dream school for a while now and i cant wait to start in the fall. i hope all you berkeley transfers have a bad time there >:) jk

I really don’t think I’m gonna pick Irvine over Cal but for some reason… I have yet to SIR… I’m afraid to commit. ahahhaha

cant decide between ucla and ucsb

UCLA has been my dream school since I was in 5th grade, and I now have the opportunity to attend- of course I’m not going to pass that up!

I did apply to Berkeley, and was rejected, but I applied thinking it’d be cool if I got in, but I knew UCLA was the place for me, regardless of how wishy washy I’ve been over the last couple days! ha ha. I’ve SIR’ed to UCLA, and will see all you cool kids in the Fall!

SIR’d UCLA
also Essenar, SD doesn’t get that hot during summer, never even hits 90 where i live. but i’m on the coast, so i guess it depends on where you visited. plus that’d be during summer, wouldn’t you leave for home by then?

Berkeley. it’s either berkeley or san diego, so who wouldn’t choose berkeley?

^ My older brother did.

He just loves SD and being closer to home where he can visit at least once a week

I SIRed Berkeley, right after i got in, and i did it cuz its Berkeley, and I love that place soooo much!!

UCLA. It was between UCLA and UCSD. As an English major, there is not really any competition. UCLA’s English dept is more of what I’m looking for.

I sired to UCSC before I got my acceptance from ucsd and ucla. It’s about education but it’s also about trying something new and I’ve lived in a big city in so cal my whole life. So yey banana slugs!
