The Woes of a Waitlistee

Greetings! I require advice.
Let me tell you about my situation. My top two schools were Emerson College and Syracuse University, the former being my absolute number one. Syracuse offered me admission, while Emerson actually put me on the Wait List.

I've sent in my deposit to Syracuse, so I've got a spot secured there for the Fall. However, I'm still waiting on Emerson to tell me if they want me or not, which they said would be done "by" June 30th. "By" makes me question their wording, so I'm guessing I'll know anywhere between mid-May and the end of June.

I'm more than willing to wait, and if Emerson decides to admit me, depending on how much aid they offer me (do they even offer much aid to wait listed students? I'm very, very poor. Who isn't these days?), I'll more than likely accept their offer.

What is making me very nervous, though, is the billing schedule of Syracuse University. I'll be doing a monthly payment plan because of a work-study that I was offered, so I'm going to be paying each month just that difference needed. The first of these payments is due July 1st. I was surprised to how early they wanted the money! I've yet to get my alternative loan, and my mother's yet to apply for the PLUS loan. I was actually going to do that all at the end of June/Early July.

In short, I'm wondering what others would do in my position. Should I forget about Emerson and just go to Syracuse? I was told I could transfer after one full year at SU, but I was also told that transfer students are given less to no aid. Is this gamble worth it?

Thanks!

Take a deep breath.

June 30 comes before July 1. There is Fedex with overnight delivery, so even at the very last moment you can get a check to them. And, if you haven’t heard by June 28 (or even a few days earlier) call Emerson admissions and ask about your waitlist status.

Fogcity – Thanks for your advice! I realize I must sound like a chicken with its head cut off, truthfully that’s how I’ve felt during this whole college process.

I’m just mostly worried with how fast they want the initial payment, because now I’ll have to be trying to take those loans out sooner than I anticipated – all of this with a possible Emerson admission looming over my head. I hope everything works out, though!
