I just finished my second book about Scandinavia. First one “A year of living Danishly”
Yesterday finished this one - Michael booth- “the almost nearly perfect people of Scandinavia”

We have lots to learn about gender equality in both Denmark and Sweden. Booth is highly critical of Sweden, he even apologizes for his bias.
Finland’s educational system is highly regarded.
@marvin100, you are still trying to turn this into a political debate. I agree with you in general on the topic of immigration/Sweden, but my point is that no government/political party is immune to lying and manipulating certain situations to support their agendas.
The truth almost always lies in the middle somewhere.
It is interesting to read older news articles, written when the political tones were different. Take this 2005 article, for instance:
https://www.thelocal.se/20051214/2683
[quote]
Immigrants in Sweden are four times more likely to be investigated for lethal violence and robbery than persons born in Sweden to Swedish parents, the National Council for Crime Prevention said on Wednesday]
^ The fact that non-Swedes are more often suspected and/or convicted of crimes might also be due in part to racial profiling. Swedes aren’t immune to racism, though most would like to think they are.
I’ve been to Sweden a number of times for work. It’s a pleasant, comfortable place, if a bit dull. I feel safer walking around any quarter of Stockholm at any time of day or night than I do in any U.S. city. And their commitment to gender equality is real and far-reaching, far surpassing the U.S. in that regard.
My husband’s nephew has been working as a researcher in Sweden for a couple of years. He can’t wait to leave, because he can’t stand the lack of light during the winter. He says it’s horrible.
^That would be fine with me, but I couldn’t stand it being bright while I was trying to sleep.
Blackout shades.
Surely they cannot ignore the existence and significant support of the Sweden Democrats?
I’d just put my bed in the walk in closet haha.
You learn something new everyday:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden_Democrats#Racist_incidents
“The party describes itself as social conservative with a nationalist foundation,[1][3] though it has been characterized by some as far-right,[12] right-wing populist,[4][13] national-conservative,[14] and anti-immigration.”
So Swedish Democrats are like the Republicans (particularly Tea party) in the US right now?
From Michael Booth’s book 2014 - " The Almost Nearly Perfect People - behind the myth of the Scandinavian utopia " page 345
"
Overall, Booth’s final chapters on Sweden are not very complimentary- as many posters above pointed out it isn’t a " perfect uptopia"
I enjoyed this book.
