Theater has always been a major part of my D's life. Loves everything about it, from acting to working in both the front and the back of the house. She been accepted to Wellesley and we're trying to get a fix on what kinds of opportunities she'll have to get involved in theater. Anybody with any experience in this area?

And this raises another question: Do the performing arts play much of a part of life on campus? If you don't want to schlep into Cambridge to hang out with the kids at MIT what is there to do on weekends? Music? Dance? Film?

Hi, Masspop. My D is in her second year at Wellesley. She’s not a theater person, but is a dancer/musician (but not serious enough to pursue it as a major). She is involved in both a dance group at Wellesley and also a music group. Both of them meet on campus and have regular rehearsals/performances. She’s also performed with her dance group at other campuses - they went to MIT and performed for a fundraiser with groups from Harvard, MIT, Boston College, etc.

I saw that “Sense and Sensibility - the Musical” will be on campus at the end of this month - she’s a big Jane Austen fan!

Hopefully someone else can comment on the theater scene. I know my D struggles to squeeze in time for dance and music along with her studies and part-time job; but most of the time manages to fit it in.
