Theater at CSU's and ASU

Okay so I've applied and been admitted to Long Beach State, CSU Fullerton, Arizona State and I have to audition for San Diego State but I was just wondering which school has the strongest reputation for perfecting abilities and actually teaching good material and also with the most connections to Hollywood, because what's the point if your school doesn't have connections to get you to the next level?

Okay, I’m not so sure any of those schools have strong connections to Hollywood, whatever that even means. UCLA , maybe. CSUF has a reasonably strong MT program but it’s also a very severe cut school so comes with no guarantees of anything. Go to the school where you think you can learn and grow the most. The rest is up to you.

CSU Fullerton and San Diego State probably offer the best training. No idea about Hollywood connections. You really need to visit the websites and look carefully at curricula and faculty bios.

Fullerton definitely has the best. I would say Long Beach and San Diego are probably tied for second, with San Diego maybe only being slightly ahead. I have heard nothing of ASU – it sounds like University of Arizona has the strongest program in that state.

Take a look at Cal Poly Pomona…they have some interesting faculty and an Acting Tract…

I read the expression ‘cut school’ used a number of times on CC. What does that mean? Sorry for my ignorance in advance.

From what I understand a cut system means that they would admit for example 30 Freshmen, but only want a class of 15 by sophomore year so they cut 15 students no matter how talented they are. They have to kick them out to make the desired number of 15.

This is such a late reply, but maybe it will help other other people. Anyway, Arizona State theater program SUCKS major balls. I was a theater major and there’s only one professor who has connections, but he’s also the head of the whole theater department so it’s hard to talk to him one on one. Also, the acting teachers suck. I took acting 101 and the professor was horrible. He even admitted he made a mistake at teaching acting. The professors like throwing students on the deep end of the pool and seeing if they can swim, without teaching them to swim first.
