how is the theater department at brown?

When I visited the tour guide I had said he loved the theater department there, and that it was easy to be active in it.

I can't remember his name...but recent grad on Broadway-Color Purple

the theater dept. is good here, but not if you want a BFA conservatory approach. it's actually the complete opposite of that, as it approaches theater through a more historical and theoretical lens, as opposed to intense application through studio performance. there are classes though that are performance based, such as intro to acting, acting/directing etc. not a huge amount, but enough to get you by. theater opportunities are more than available - i'm convinced you can do theater as your only extracurricular activity here for 4 years and not have a single day where you're not rehearsing... in other words, the opportunities to be in a show (musicals, drama... experimental even) are amazing. and in terms of alums in theater now, look to masi oka in heroes right now (a computer science major who also took classes in the theater dept), jed resnick (current senior) who just finished on the national tour of rent as mark, plus duncan sheik (composer of spring awakening) and many others...

I know of someone who went through the theater program at Brown and is very successful now.

I went to Summer at Brown and saw 2 performances there by students; both were excellent. One actually had Danny DeVito's daughter in it. He was in the audience that night :)
