Theatre, Movies, Restaurants, etc.

I read that the dorm houses "sponsor" trips downtown to the theatre or to movies. Does this mean the students in these houses don't have to pay anything? I mean, are these trips activities that the dorms encourage so that people get out and meet others?

If so, anybody interested in WICKED? lol. I'm going to see that quick when I get to Chicago!

And who else is hoping to hang around the movie theaters (particularly the one next to Second City) in hopes they will get an invite to a Special Early Screening for Order of the Phoenix? I am. Last year in July, GoF was screened early with a test audience in Chicago. I wanna see the screening for OotP!!!

Usually the trips are offered at a greatly reduced rate, but not for free. Some trips are within a single house, some within a single dorm, and some are campus-wide. There are funds available for houses that wish to do a trip with another house from another dorm, with the aim of fostering inter-house sociability.

This is not the best way to get out of Hyde Park, though. If you really want to see the city make some plans with a few friends and take the bus or the El downtown. There's plenty of fun to have on the cheap if you're looking for it.
