Theatre Rejections Class of '11

OK, here goes.

Emerson BA theater acting (audition program). Was high on S list. The roller coaster ride has begun.

niftydesign S: Emerson (BA acting), U Minn Guthrie

Rejections make you grow stronger

I have been rejected from Emerson (BFA) and Ithaca (BFA)
2 of my tops… :/

mine are all for BFA acting by the way…

University of Minnesota
University of Evansville (no surprise, I had a horrible auditions)
CCM (sorta a surprise, because I felt like this was my BEST audition)
CalArts

I was rejected from Marymount Manhattan academically and then they calle dand asked if I was going to the audition. Most awkward phone call ever.

kevin, that’s a real shame. We’ve had a couple of weird mistakes from schools, too.

My D auditioned for 6 schools. She’s gotten 2 rejections: Montclair State and Minn/Guthrie. Her last 2 to hear from are very selective - BU and CMU - so we just have crossed fingers at this point.

Our sympathies to everyone! No one gets in everywhere, after all.

rejected from Juilliard, University of Michigan MT, Emerson BFA (but accepted for BA). I’m sure there will be more to come.

kecarthew: Remember, “all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey” in those places and NOT at USC (BFA) :)

rejected from:

Fordham BA
Elon BFA
UNCSA BFA

im still waiting for DePaul and Western Carolina…i find out this week…hopefully

Oh, gotta add Rutgers now too. (Which I was expceting anyways lol)

Rutgers University
University of Minnesota
University of Evansville (no surprise, I had a horrible auditions)
CCM (sorta a surprise, because I felt like this was my BEST audition)
CalArts

Too depressing to list them all. Got two on Thursday, another big no today. Still waiting on a few with hope, and a few more whose no’s are imminent.

It is impossible to understand this process and these decisions…

My D has racked up the following rejections:

UMinn Guthrie
Rutgers
Syracuse

Rutgers and Syracuse both came yesterday so that sucked!

She’s also waitlisted at Emerson. We’re waiting on results from 3 more auditions. It didn’t seem possible at the beginning of this journey that she could face so much rejection but here it is.

Her theater teacher says to have a ritual to deal with rejections. His suggestion is to go for a run, take a shower, have a cup of tea and read a new play. It seems to be helping my daughter (with some crying mixed in).

I hope all of you great, great kids realize how proud you should be of yourselves. You really are very brave and resilient to do this and I hope its an experience you can carry with you throughout your lives.

Calarts is a no go

I actually have a question…
I have been rejected from everywhere I’ve heard from: Marymount, Point Park, Emerson, Pace, Wagner, and Temple.
I also got rejected from Emerson completely, with my stats being:
SAT CR: 710
SAT Math: 640
SAT W: 710
GPA: 90.65 (I go to a magnet school.)
Pretty average-above average for Emerson. I also lited a 2nd choice major. Anyone have any idea why I might’ve gotten completely rejected?

hpchik - so sorry. Just to clarify, did you get academically accepted to any of those schools you mentioned?

My D was declined also from Emerson and your stats were definately better than hers.
She too also indicated a second choice but that didn’t make a difference. They are very competitive and offer spots for about 20-25.

I wish I could help more. Good Luck

My d was rejected from Julliard and UNCSA…but was accepted at SCAD, Shenandoah (those are for BFA’s) and the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. That is all she auditioned/applied too…

Very hard to figure. But hang in there everyone. Here’s the rollercoaster my D’s been on so far:

Rejected: SUNY Purchase

Accepted with large talent scholarship UArts

Rejected Point Park for acting, accepted academically with a small scholarship. Pont Park is coming at her hard to come anyhow and be in their honors program (fat chance of that happening!)

Accepted with talent scholarship AMDA

Accepted academically at Marymount, but didn’t get into the acting program (her one tough audtion)

Rejected Ithaca (but the coaching/notes she got during her audition early that day probably helepd with her UArts audition later that day. Thank you, Ithaca!)

Waitlisted Emerson

Accepted with talent scholarship, Hartt School (Woo hoo. Just learned an hour ago!)

Waiting to hear from UConn and BU

Things went very well for her at BU, so we’re very hopeful there since it’s one of her top choices. She’s already eliminated AMDA (they actually make kids send in their deposits buy March 18!), and has her fingers crossed on Emerson.

hpchik, I’m surprised. Your stats are good and in the ballpark. I’m really surprised about Temple and Emerson. Do you have other colleges yet to hear from?

racroce, have you not heard anything at all from UConn? They are asking for a yes or no by April 4th (what???) so I assumed they would have notified everyone by now. I got my acceptance in February, maybe you should call and see what’s up! Best of luck.

Has anyone been accepted to DePaul?
Still haven’t heard of anyone getting in
